I think during leve's AoE is limited to leve mobs only, but outside its free game to anything (havent tested to know, but in leve's none of my thaum/conj spells hit anything but the leve mobs)

For Archer it doesn't work that way. Arrow Helix hits leve mobs and outside mobs.

What I don't understand though is why Wide Volley isn't hitting mobs outside the leves. I think its still not working as it should across all AoEs.

Anyone suggest a connection between surplus exp and the type of mob your fighting? Like to avoid a shitload of surplus, fight a different enemy each kill. Swarm -> Mole -> Roseling for example. Purely speculation tho

He's easy to find on the lower docks exactly where the quest says he is. But if you still can't find him, go to the round between the two hawkers alley and leave onto the pier going down to the Fisherman's guild, you'll see him.

A leatherworker. Sheepskin itself can be obtained from a vendor on hawkers alley, or from sheep.

I'm messing around with retainers ATM. Let me get this straight, if I want to set my retainer up to buy (seeking) 500 ice shards I have to actually already have 500 ice shards on my retainer? /boggle

Of course everything's going to fail if you're level 1 making a level 5 item. It's much better now than it was last phase, where it was impossible to fail.

That said, alpha crafting was probably the best.

I never tried alpha crafting so I can't really compare, but I assume it was more of a mid-point between what we have now and what we had in phase 2?

Personally if as a rank 5 goldsmith I fail 11 out of 12 synths on a rank 1 craft, there's something up.

Mind you, this assumes that copper nails and fish hooks ARE rank 1.

EDIT: The client is installed but the updates are installing. It says 1 of 6 and so far, it has been 7 hours to get to 16%. Clearly, they don't want me to see the beta...lol.

on BS i noticed that nails and hooks werent that easy, its prolly a case of you have to be level 1 to do it, but its actually at the end of the tier. in BS needle was waaaay easier than the fish hook.

how are you trying to synth? you're nearly guaranteed to succeed if you use just rapid.

Go to C:\Users\[YOURGAYNAME\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo and grab the torrents and run them in your absolute favorite torrent program. Once they're downloaded place the data in the C:\Users\[YOURGAYNAME\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\Patch folder, run beta client, smoke weed, play beta

The torrent files can be found in your "my documents\my games\square enix\" folder, don't remember the exact path, but dig under there. Skip the "my games" if you're on vista i think.

Didnt see the current XI subs benefits posted yet. If so I apologize:

FFXI players who create a FFXIV character will receive a special pair of leather boots.

Meant to be used by messengers, these boots are low in weight and give you a speed boost.

As previously announced, you'll be able to carry your FFXI name over to FXIV. In general, your name will become the name of your FFXI character plus the name of your world/server. So, if you had a character named Destiny, and your character was in the Odin world, you'll have the name "Destiny Odin."

Square Enix isn't ending service on FFXI, of course. In fact, it looks like it's trying to both spur signups and keep current players. Through January 2011..
