Man, I don't want Gelwain Hades just to get the boots. Can't we prove we have an account, put whatever name we want, and still get the boots?

Seems pretty straight forward to me, though I have been fooled before.

I think we can still get the boots without having to keep our XI name. The boots just requires that both XIV and XI accounts are linked on the same Square Enix account.

according to eorzeapedia.com the monthly fee will be 7 bucks a month (instead of 12.95) till Jan 2011 for active linked XI accounts for US players. Also talks more about the Names and how they link on there as well.

Pretty sure it just defaults your first/last name to whatever Name/Server, I'm sure you can change it, and as it's been said repeatedly, all characters get the boots on the account. If the system forced your first character to be XXX Servername (doubtful) you could just immediately delete him/her and make another one and still have the boots.

So, the Surplus for my main class just completely vanished along with the yellow xp for my physical level. It happens to be exactly one week from when I first gained it.

Maybe a connection? Maybe not? I'm happy it's gone though for now. Getting great skill returns on Leves again.

EDIT: Getting feedback from my LS and a couple of other members are saying the same thing. Got to Rank 14 then started getting surplus around this time last week and now it's gone for them too.

There's no connection sadly like that. I did 3 leves this morning and my skill and exp both went from yellow to white and my surplus skill vanished for a bit, but both my exp and skill turned yellow again after a handful of fights and I'm getting surplus exp even through later leves on the same class.

I'm messing around with retainers ATM. Let me get this straight, if I want to set my retainer up to buy (seeking) 500 ice shards I have to actually already have 500 ice shards on my retainer? /boggle

indeed, I also am not convinced that your retainer auto-buys the items when they are available, or perhaps they only buy them when they are the exact list price. I have put shards up as seeking on my retainer and immediately found shards off someone, and my retainer did not pick them up.

Retainers have to be the worst hit of the entire mess of issues. The UI is terrible, and slow, and the market wards crash a lot. When they crash your retainer disapears, so it really doesn't help with trying to sell/buy things.

Is there a benefit to using the stands? I used them once and they don't appear to do anything different from having them standing in the main area.

Afair the system doesn't work like you think. You list the items you seek and the price, and when somebody checks your retainer and see what you are looking for, they can just click it and sell it to you for the listed price.

The XI discount would mean more to me if they dropped the added fee on mules. Would still be $11/mo for me at the moment if the discounted rate starts at $7. Kinda wish they'd just do a package deal for $20/mo with unlimited characters on both.
