Starting to lose interest in this game. It doesn't seem like they changed enough from their previous hard headed ways. Then again SE was never a good company when it came to relationships with its customers. And i suppose it makes sense, some of its customers are zombies.

So the mouse thing doesn't seem like a big deal if the game is controlled similar to FFXI? I mean who used the mouse in FFXI? Or does FFXIV require mouse usage? I played FFXI entirely via keyboard. Movement, camera, macros, F-key targets, tab targeting, ect.

But if the mouse is crucial to FFXIV game play the way it is for WoW, I'll start to be concerned about hard ware enabled mice.

From the beta, its basically the same as FFXI (SE Defense Force GO!), and as I said earlier, FFXI isn't known for a twitch or reaction-based style in its fights, so for someone who never plays any games that use mouse controls, I'm sure there's no big deal.

Mouse-based UI navigation, however, is a huge draw for me, and this game having both a sluggish and clunky UI combined with terrible mouse interactivity with the UI hurts it deeply in my book.

I don't think it'll be a problem at all for you, though, so don't worry.

@Frien: And this didn't happen in FFXI at all, did it? I remember some awesome hyperinflation in FFXI: 12 mil for a scorp harness when your average person could only hope to make half a mil from levels 1-70 through a normal, non-farming, non-grinding playstyle. Grinding for light crystals, anyone? Farming for beehive chips, anyone? Farming tiger fangs and tree cuttings, anyone?

I don't remember dealing with hyperinflation in many other games I played, mainly because the developers were smart enough to put in massive money-sinks at high level play that, while weren't required, absolutely were awesome to have, and kept the economy rolling at a decent clip. If you make money impossible to gain outside of crafting, then you find people searching for every mob and craft exploit to turn a buck. I'd rather make money comfortable to obtain, but place plenty of desirable money-sinks outside of strictly craftable mats/armor/pots, so that people aren't just passing money from hand to hand, but are outright dumping it from the server in exchange for items/services/skills.

I haven't played the beta yet so you know I am talking out my ass at the moment. (Where is my key?!) The FFXIV UI does look more click friendly than FFXI at least.

Didn't FFXI have a hardware enabled mouse option? I swear it did... but I never could tell the difference using it or not because of the 30 fps cap.

It did but no one really used it because you had to enable it.

It is slightly more click-friendly. You can click targets and NPCs to begin interacting with them, and you can click and select items from your menus, but its nowhere near intuitive, and much of that stems from the fact that the FFXIV build is ripped straight from FFXI, where everything starts with the keyboard, and the mouse is just a second thought.

This wouldn't be -as- big of a problem as it is right now if they brought back the freakin arrow keys, but to make people mix and match with the mouse and then have the mouse interact so clumsily with the menus and overall UI, while not allowing them to just completely eschew the mouse and stick to pure comfortable keyboard is just... well...

    Frustrating.

you dont need to use the mouse at all.
left mouse click is to select/confirm, can use tab and enter instead.
wheel is for auto run, just push w for forward and hit r for auto run.
right click is camera, just use IJKL.
i would still like the arrow keys for camera, but alot hasnt been implemented yet.
no <r>, no f8 for mob targeting , very limited armor and equipment, to name a few.
its a beta, wait a month and it will be better.

interview translation: we know we should of changed stuff, we didnt, so here is our [made-up] excuse as to why we didn't implement "said" features.

market wards suck.. If it was going to be an advanced version of XI bazaars then it should be one giant zone. No reason to search 8 zones for different bazaars when they could of made the first zone giant. And they wanted it to be their AH system, but it's to late to implement a good AH system last minute since they [now] realize market wards do suck. (Hi" I want XYZZ, but since i dont have XYZZ I cant search for it").

And hate to say it, but all recent mmo's have failed because of slim end game content. So I'm floored they out-right admitted to their being no end game content. No reason why you can't have the game easy/casual at launch while still appealing to both crowds.

Wait why is a plate mage stupid? You're sacrificing magic power for survivability, this is supposed to be a game about customizing your character.

I'm going to assume it was sarcasm because it reads like it so don't take it as a response just to you but...

I think opening up all armor to all classes in P3 was my favorite change, as long as the stats match the armor type, most people are going to stick to an armor type that benefits them the most. A plate wearing mage is only going to be doing that for solo, or perhaps if they somehow have such strong magic that they end up pulling hate/threat regardless of the fact that they're wearing non-magic enhancing gear.

Right now the biggest issue for being a hybrid is the stat distribution, and the reduced potency on cross-class spells. Hoping that armor ends up making up for a lot of this, and we see some interesting hybrid armor as well.

at least it looks like they are going to fix the UI lag issues, if my SE-to-English translator is functioning correctly T.T

terribly sad that what should be an obvious expectation is the "good news" of an interview.

Actually, they failed because there's nothing to do, "grind" is shunned so you can get to max lvl in weeks casually and the devs make it even easier to hit the cap with double xp weekends and whatever.

I don't think XIV will fall into that hole, it might fall into some other holes entirely.

At the very least, they haven't hired some PR pricks that feed us lies about updates that'll never happen. Now that we know how it'll end up, might as well wait or skip it.

There'll be no hardware mouse at launch, nor will there be any auction house. A glorified bazaar is the name of the game. By march 2011, we'll have a couple of updates and bugfixes to make the game what it should have been by launch. Did I mention that the 3 storylines for each city is the only form of quested storyline we'll be getting, and the faction leaves substituting for endgame until content patches are made? Furthermore, only 5 different regions are included with the release, 3 being the 3 starting cities and their surrounding area.
So basically by the end of 2011 maybe we will get something close to a beginner endgame content it sounds like. WTF do we supposed to do in this game again?

It will fall into the Surplus hole. After reading that interview it's obvious there is no "secret magic retail build". We're playing the game minus the other starting areas.

It's safe to say surplus is here to stay. They just admitted they have no endgame content. They NEED to keep people from reaching the cap.
