yeah, the place I ordered it from didn't have them either, so I had to stick with the normal 1GB version. I suspect they don't produce them anymore or something. When I ordered my 1GB version they had 1 left in stock. When they shipped it, they had just received a new shipment of them. 2GB one is still out of stock, though.

I have a feeling I will have to settle for the 1gb version as well. Really didn't want to do that at all.

I'm running the game at 1280x960 actually (so I got room on the side for forums/other "stuff".

1Gb is enough for the res I use, higher the res, the more ram you want on the video card since ffxiv uses a ton of it.

going to see if I have enough saved up for a new cpu cooler+fan for it this month, the heatwave is really holding me back ;/ 110+ heat index every day of the week for past month is really hurting ;/

I have a E6550 and it's 100% on both in game at most parts.

My 5830 was not fully loaded though.

I was debating 2 GB vs 1 GB as well, I got my 1GB on sale so that pushed me over the edge. If the game doesn't make use of the extra video memory, so it probably isn't going to be a big loss for FFXIV, but if you want a different game in the future who knows. This was the advice I got from my local hardware nerd, so I think its good advice.

If you are running on max post some screens, I'd like to see how good it looks on Max. Also, you can run the game in windowed mode that matches your desktop resolution and still use forums etc while getting the fullscreen size.

Well, I WERE considering the 5970 instead of the 5870, but I just couldn't justify the pricing. Its almost twice as expensive, and not exactly twice as good, so I'll wait.

I mean, think about it. You finish your Bearded Rock leves and you're level 8. You can now use the next tier of weapons at their optimal levels. You can blow through those leves in minutes, yet if you want to try and level your crafting up to 8, not only do you need a LOT more money than what those few leves (and Missions at those levels) provide, but also a lot more time. You'd literally need days to gather enough materials and experience to successfully craft the weapons for a physical class to use that leveled to 8 in minutes.

Yes, its beta. Yes. We know. But something just seems off about the pacing. Why slow down crafting if you're going to hyper speed up physical classes? Why not offer the same massive skill gains through crafting leves when you are successful? I'd love to see some 7,350 armorer skill points if I make that bronze celata, just like if my level 2 lancer kills that lowly rat through a leve.

Each phase they have stopped making stuff easier for beta testers.
Alpha: had gear & weapons on venders
beta1/2: Had accessories / weapons on venders
beta3: No weapons (havent checked accessories) on venders (<-- retail venders)

They allow ppl to start as crafting / gatherer's so I'm guessing they want the economy to start out w/gear being made. It makes sense.. this was how XI basically was. XI, I'm sure, had issues w/gear/weapons at start. So I'd imagine XIV to be the same way for the first few weeks as ppl figure out recipes, know where to farm what materials, ect... It's part of the trials of starting out in a mmo where gear isn't given to you as you lv. It's never been an issue in WoW (for example) because you could lv up on quest / instance gear and crafting gear wasn't rly that needed. In Aion, crafted gear was nice & needed, but you could survive on quested stuff until you got crafted gear.
Just think though, a few weeks - month after retail getting starter weapons / gear, ect... won't be an issue anymore.

But I am strongly leaning towards weapon lv vs current job lv reflecting surplus values. Makes perfect sense to me

also depends on your common gpu temps. the fermi cards (4xx) series can handle the 90+c temp's. They are made for those temp's and it's not considered overheating. On Auto, the fan's speed actually works to keep it at high 80's / low 90-92c. But all games aside XIV have had the fan at like 60-70% to keep it at 85-92c (for example). While XIV pushed the speed to 90%+

Sadly, this and the fps cap remove is probably the best improvement over P2.
Seriously though I miss FFXI LS Icons. These "custom" BS icons look horrible.

Shepherd Class was Dat mined a few months ago by Cair, the speculation is it's for a possible Advanced class down the line.

I don't think the surplus has anything to do with the level of your weapon. I think its like a teeter toter system. I got my archer to 13, when i first starting seeing the surplus @ about 10%, and my skill was yellow. When I hit 16, my skill turned red and was getting about 75-100% surplus. I then switched to woodworking till about lvl 3, then did fishing, and get BS to about 4. Then i went and started on lancer, skill was white and not getting any surplus. I got lancer to 10, then switched back to archer. My skill is back to normal and not getting any surplus. After awhile of grinding, skill went back to yellow. Then switch to MAR till about 10, went back to archer and skill is back to normal (white)

Seems to me they don't want you to stick to one class, they want you to do multiple things, or you get the surplus.

I was running at 1920x1080 (full screen) and could only get 30+ frames when I turned off AO. Using a Radeon 5870.

Was this done over a period of time? Or did you try taking a break and logging out and playing the next day (w/o changing jobs) to see if surplus was still in effect?

If that's really the case then it's probably just a beta thing. They would have said something by now if it was going to be in retail. It might be something to track information for them IF that is the case of what it is. I can't see them forcing us to level more then one class in retail if we don't want to.

I still think its a weapon thing. I remember in p2 ppl would log out and not play for a day and then not get surplus the next day... for a few kills... before it kicked back in again. So it could be that the system just doesn't register the weapon lv VS your lv until you start fighting. Because it seems like, in p3, ppl are getting surplus skill at lower lvs compared to p2... and in p2 there were weapons on venders

5870 here also, AO kills my FPS. Turned off both AO and DoF and was getting about 50-60 FPS running around LL. Runs hot, though, in the 80s with fan set at 40%.

Yeah seen it could be cool if they do more with it, the creator said it's based in germany or middle europe somewhere.

I'm still for the weapon thing as well, just because of the fact a lot of the 30 PUGs did not receive as much surplus as others and myself. They had access to lvl 26 weapons I believe?

I don't see it regardless of what it is getting into retail though. I think they are just trying to use the crafting system or another class in this phase. In order for us to actually level up past this surplus bull shit we would need to get higher level weapons, which would require crafting.

All during the same time, over about 4 hours total. No logging out or taking breaks. I personally don't think it has anything to do with the level of your weapon. During phase 2, using my PUG with the level 26 weapon, I did not see the surplus till about level 13, and it just got higher and higher. Seems to me, it would have lowered the closer I got to level 26. But again, when I would go craft or level another class then return to PUG, surplus would stop for awhile. I also tried to switch to a level 1 PUG weapon (thinking it was something to do with the weapon being below 50%) but the surplus stayed the same. If it was because of the level of my weapon, seems it would have increased switching from a level 26 weapon down to a level 1, when i was level 22. When servers come back up, try it out. If you have a class that is yellow or red skill, switch to crafting or something else for awhile, then return to the class that was getting surplus, I'm willing to bet the surplus will lower, if not stop for awhile.

If this is the case and there is some sort of skill fatigue..... Shame on you SE!

Does anyone happen to know yet if the 128 max Linkshell members means total members? Or people who have it equipped as their main? Or just people online? I know it's difficult to test at the moment, but wasn't sure if it had been confirmed one way or another yet.
