    @High horse

You probably shouldn't even be responded to, but what you mentioned was the entire point of Bioshock, and lots of great works of literature likewise: the dystopian society. Not only that, but it adds a lot of depth, because realistically no leader of a country ever comes out and says "I'm evil." The point is that each side has positives and points, but that the society isn't working. You've got incredible science and a really cool steam-punk environment, but it's all gone horribly wrong. If it was just surface deep baddies vs. goodies, the story line would have no depth, and Bioshock would have been...well 80% of games.

So the ideology of interest for this game's plot is nationalism?

I have Bioshock 1 but never played it. This makes me want to.

Quick/Silly question: Is the first one a really tense game? I have to be in a certain mood to play games that stress me out.

Tense in what sense? If it's in regards to combat, no worries since you can't 'die' on the normal settings, you just respawn at the nearest revitachamber in the area.

If it's regards to the world of the game and what's going on in it. Well, there's a lot of fucked up stuff happening in the world of Rapture, people that lost their sanity, killing one another, screaming and hollering, etc.

I should probably reinstall it (for about the sixth time) and beat the damn thing myself. I believe I was around halfway done it.

Interesting.... I liked the Sea city as it seemed plausible however.... this is pretty far fetched as far as flying cities go. Can't follow any similar plots about having to escape as there would be some decent opportunities to build something that could escape a flying city.

Guess we'll see where this goes.

Perhaps you're actually after something this time, rather than being forced to the location beyond your will. It'd give you reason to stay aboard at least.

You're tracking down the girl in the trailer essentially.

Hopefully this will be better, but I can't say I'm really excited. It's nice that they're not setting it in rapture *again*, but this still feels kinda formulaic.
Isolated community makes misguided decisions driven by some sort of idealism, player is trust into it as an outside party. Replace water with some nice bloom and HDR-y skies.
I do like the sound of that AI partner though! Either way, it'll probably be a nice game.
Pretty much feel the exact same way. Although I dread the sound of an AI partner.

I only got to play the demo for 1, thought it was great but local rental store never got it for ps3;; did rent 2 and I really didn't think much of it.

After first seeing this unoriginal "new spin" on the game(air city instead of sea city...yawn...) I could care less. But, now that I'm learning here that the makers if 1 are doing it, I'm actually a little interested. Too bad it won't be out until 2012.

Have to agree with this, at least in terms of the RPG aspects of Bioshock. Coming from SS2 where you basically has to specialize in a few paths (specific weapon type, ESP skills, etc) to beat the game (out of at least 7-8 possibilities that I can remember, the simplistic plasmid system in Bioshock was a bit of a disappointment. I mean, I remember having to restart SS2 a couple times because I got upset with what I decided to level up not being as affective as I hoped. That said, I can also understand the need of simplicity in today's games because the audience for games is a lot more widespread and they don't want to get a bad review because too many people found the game "too hard" because they didn't know what to level up.

The creepiness factor in SS2 was also a lot higher I thought, but maybe it's just because I was a lot younger back then...

As far as the rest of Bioshock goes, I enjoyed both 1 and 2 (2 a little less than 1) and am looking forward to this.

I basically meant shit busting through walls, having to react quickly and unexpectedly to things. From what I had seen, I got a Mr. X from Resident Evil 3 vibe from the Big Daddy. Respawning in the same area makes it pretty fine either way though.

On topic: I thought the visuals in this trailer were really well done. They definitely seem to have a knack for atmosphere. I felt like the dude falling.

There are some "busting through the walls" scenes, but the atmosphere and story around the fighting makes the game, imo. But I always enjoy reading the logs and story in a game, especially if it's as well done as the first Bioshock.

You know what i was trying to get at

It was refreshing to fight bosses, as painfully easy as they were, that had a history and story behind them, instead of MEGA SUPER DEMON V2.

what do you call the inevitable sequel?
    bioshock 2: infinite?
    bioshock: infinite 2?
    bioshock: infinite + 1?

some of the "scary" parts I remember from the 1st game is when you 1st get the shotgun and all the lights go out, in the room full of fog and when you turn around one of them is right in your face, and when your in the bathroom and you can see the shadow of a guy operating on a body, but then lights go out for a second and he disappears.

I don't really remember much from Bioshock2 as far as memorable scary moments. Most of it was just a bland fps.

And yeah.. know that if you die, you would start just a few feet away with absolutely no negative side effect definitely took away any real sense of danger.

Scariest moment for me was that stupid flooded room with the statue splicers, i thought they were creepy by just looking at them but it was shocking to see that they had disappeared when i turned around after grabbing that tonic.
