2K Games, Irrational Games and 2K Marin announced today that before exploring the world of Columbia in the upcoming release of BioShock Infinite on March 26, 2013 in North America, fans of the franchise and newcomers alike can experience everything that Rapture has to offer with the BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition.

Available in North America on January 14, 2013, BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition will carry a MSRP of $29.99 for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system. The BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition will be available in some international territories at a later date.

The BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition includes the critically-acclaimed BioShock, BioShock 2 and add-on content for both games valued at more than $40. It also includes a trip to the never-before-seen Museum of Orphaned Concepts, providing a rare look at early concept art and character models that never made it into BioShock.

In addition to BioShock and BioShock 2, the BioShock: Ultimate Rapture Edition includes more than $40 of add-on content for both games:

    ● Museum of Orphaned Concepts: Take a tour of a never-before-seen BioShock museum and view early concept art, character models and more set within the halls of Rapture.

    ● Plasmids Pack: Includes four additional Plasmids and Gene Tonics – Sonic Boom, EVE Saver, Vending Expert and Machine Buster – for use in BioShock.

    ● Challenge Rooms Pack: Previously exclusive to PS3 and now available for Xbox 360 for the first time, the pack tests the player’s mettle by requiring them to utilize the skills learned while traversing the halls of Rapture to survive three separate puzzle rooms in BioShock.

    ● Sinclair Solutions Tester: Contains a number of customization features that allow players to further their character’s development in BioShock 2 multiplayer modes and provides a deeper multiplayer experience.

    ● Rapture Metro: Includes six additional multiplayer maps, an additional multiplayer gameplay mode and a rank increase to level 50 for BioShock 2 multiplayer.

    ● The Protector Trials: Features frantic combat and fast-paced action designed to push players’ mastery of weapons and Plasmids in a BioShock 2 single-player experience spread across six maps.

    ● Minerva’s Den: A substantial narrative experience that puts players in the role Subject Sigma and introduces new characters, locations and mystery to the world of Rapture in BioShock 2. Set in a new environment, Rapture Central Computing, Minerva’s Den adds a gripping new storyline to extend the BioShock 2 experience.

    ● Also included, is an exclusive collectable sticker pack from BioShock Infinite’s world of Columbia to get gamers ready for the next chapter in the BioShock universe.

    Controls

One of the big differences between PC and console gaming is the availability of a mouse and keyboard. You expect it, so we’re happy to confirm that the PC options screens let you remap all the default action bindings, with both primary and alternate bindings available simultaneously. Speaking of mice, we’ve made sure not to alter the sensitivity of high-end gaming mice by applying artificial mouse smoothing, and you can control sensitivity or toggle mouse acceleration in the options screen.

What’s that you’re mumbling to yourself? You prefer a console controller? Don’t worry, traitor, your secret is safe with us. There are three separate controller layouts (Default, Marksman, and Retro), each of which support loads of configuration options. You can tweak aim assist, sensitivity, vibration, and look inversion. Are you a left-handed player? Go ahead and revel in your genetic superiority because all controller layouts support multiple analog-stick configurations: Default (Look on right stick, Move on left), Southpaw (opposite of Default), Legacy (for those GoldenEye fans), and Legacy Southpaw. And for those who truly yearn for an old-school feel, or who use special controllers for medical reasons, we even let you swap the left or right analog stick with the D-pad.

All UI’s in the game are controllable via either keyboard and mouse or the console controller, and you can switch back and forth between the two input paradigms without ever pausing the game.

    Graphics

I know, I know. Why discuss Controls first when we all know that Graphics Options is the first place you’ll be visiting? Because patience is a virtue. And it’s worth the wait.

This time around, we’ve fully embraced widescreen gaming. With our implementation of “horizontal plus” widescreen support, the wider you go, the more you’ll see of Columbia’s gorgeous vistas. And for the true aficionado, we support multi-monitor gaming with AMD Eyefinity, NVIDIA Surround, and Matrox TripleHead2Go. You’ll also have separate controls for aspect ratio, resolution, and display mode (fullscreen, windowed, and fullscreen windowed).

We have six different graphics presets, from “Very Low” to “Ultra,” providing a wide range of quality-versus-performance options. Gamers who want to tweak those further can switch to a Custom configuration, which gives you control over anti-aliasing, texture detail, texture filtering, dynamic shadows, post-processing, light shafts, ambient occlusion, and object level of detail. Many of these options have setting levels that are only available under DX11.

That’s right—BioShock Infinite is a DX11 game. Though you only need DX10-compatible hardware to play, having a DX11 graphics card gives you access to contact-hardening dynamic shadows, diffusion depth of field, high definition ambient occlusion and optimized antialiasing. Each of these features was developed in close collaboration with AMD’s graphics experts to take maximum advantage of modern DX11 hardware.

Finally, to show off all of that glorious PC pixel-pushing power, we’re shipping with unadulterated, full-resolution textures right in the box. You may not enjoy the three-DVD install, but we hope you will appreciate the jaw-dropping detail our amazing team of artists lavished on the game.

    Gaming Wherever, Whenever

So you have a sweet gaming rig at home, but what about when you’re on the road for work, taking a break between classes, or visiting your relatives? We know that you appreciate being able to bring your gaming with you and may not always have a beefy machine available. We’ve worked hard to include graphics options that scale both up and down, so you can play BioShock Infinite even on less powerful setups with integrated graphics.

Speaking of bringing your gaming with you, did I mention that the game is on Steam, with Steam Cloud support? You’ll be able to get your BioShock Infinite fix no matter where you are, and your saved progress travels with you.

Likewise, if you just bought an 80-inch TV and prefer to take your PC gaming to the couch (or is it a “love seat”?), we’ve got you covered with support for Steam’s Big Picture mode. Heck, with a wireless controller and a good insurance plan, you can even play from your Jacuzzi.

    Requirements

Will BioShock Infinite run on your gaming setup? We certainly hope so! So, without further ado, here are the PC requirements for BioShock Infinite:

2K Games and Irrational Games announced today that BioShock® Infinite: Mind in Revolt, an e-book prequel to the forthcoming BioShock Infinite, will be available worldwide for the Amazon Kindle beginning February 12, 2013 for $2.99 and will be free for those who pre-order the game through Amazon.

BioShock Infinite: Mind in Revolt provides insight into the mysterious sky-city of Columbia prior to the events of BioShock Infinite and is written by Irrational Games’ writer Joe Fielder with creative director Ken Levine.

“Since we first announced BioShock Infinite, our fans have asked for more information about Columbia and the complex cast of characters that inhabit the floating city,” said Fielder. “After reading the e-book, players will have a better understanding of BioShock Infinite’s world, the struggle between its factions, and the motivations of key characters, like rebel leader Daisy Fitzroy, without spoiling the mysteries of BioShock Infinite.”

Also available worldwide for free to those who pre-order BioShock Infinite is the Industrial Revolution Pack, which grants exclusive access to three in-game gear items that boost combat abilities, 500 bonus in-game currency, five lock picks, and the Industrial Revolution puzzle game which unlocks stories of Columbia and allows players to pledge their allegiance to the Vox Populi or Founders through Facebook.

Three all-new add-on packs are in development that will provide hours of additional gameplay and continue the player’s journey in the sky-city of Columbia with new stories, characters, abilities and weapons.

The BioShock Infinite Season Pass will be available on March 26, 2013 when the game is planned to launch, and provide nearly $30.00 of add-on content for $19.99 on PlayStation Network and Windows PC or 1,600 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live online entertainment network, a savings of more than 30%. The Season Pass will include all three add-on packs, and can be pre-ordered today through preordernow.com or at a participating retailer.

    PC Pre-Order Details:

    Green Man Gaming

Behind Steam, GMG might be one of the most successful retailers in the digital game distribution business, and pre-order deals like this certainly don’t hurt their popularity in that regard.

Starting today, if you pre-order Bioshock Infinite for PC, you’ll receive the original Bioshock as well as one game of your choice from this list:

    • Spec Ops: The Line
    • Civilization V
    • Bioshock 2
    • The Darkness II
    • Mafia II

Both games will be made immediately available upon completion of your pre-order (the full $60 mind you), and the deal is active right now. And if you’ve already pre-ordered (before today), the deal retroactively includes you.

Pre-orders for the game also include $14 cash back or $15 in GMG credit and the Industrial Revolution Minigame Pack. Sidenote: if you place your pre-order before noon on Monday, February 25, your order will be lowered to only $49.98 (as opposed to $59.99).

    Steam

On Steam, the pre-order rewards are separated into tiers. Put simply, as the number of pre-orders placed increases, so do the rewards for each buyer. Right now, the first tier of three has been attained, which means that all who pre-order will receive a copy of the original Bioshock.

    Here are all the tiers:

    • Tier 1: Free copy of Bioshock (can be gifted)
    • Tier 2: Bioshock Infinite Team Fortress 2 items
      • Vox Diabolus
      • The Pounding Father
      • Blind Justice
      • The Person in the Iron Mask
      • The Doe-Boy
      • The Sydney Straw Boat
      • The Steel Songbird
    • Tier 3: Free copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown (can be gifted)

You’ll also receive access to the Industrial Revolution Minigame Pack, which includes 500 units of in-game currency, five lock picks and the Industrial Revolution puzzle game. This is not associated with any tier, and is included regardless of tiers reached.
