Posting in response for Meresgi, he actually made the post for me. It does hurt, it feels like when you burn the roof of your mouth. What would cause a cancher sore?

Irritation, abbrasion, sometimes a viral process can cause them, they can be responses to certain allergens as well. They go away on their own, faster the less often you tongue them and continue to irritate them. Avoid foods with tomatoes, and acids. Spicy foods would also be bad.

anything like orange juice or something citrus is how you can get those sores, but for me they usually appear around my inner cheeck on the sides of my teeth, not my gums. It kinda looks like it could be puss from a forming infection. I'd go back to your dentist

cancher sore, I'm sure of it. I get them all the time. They are usually caused by sugary or acidic foods.

The best ways to get rid of them are: Mouth wash, avoiding sugary/acidic foods, and time. You will likely have it for 3-5 days.

That should help with the pain in the mean time.

If you have no peripheral pain or redness around the tooth you had the root canal on, and all the discomfort is localized on the highlighted area, its a canker sore. Worst case scenario the root was not either properly cleaned out or the sealant not set correctly resulting in infection, your lack of symptoms rules this out. Use the product shown above, and if it worsens in terms of spreading pain even slightly see your dentist immediately: correcting root canal associated infections can be painful and cumbersome.

Go to the dentist is the correct answer, that could be a number of things, including an abscess which is definitely bad. My mom was a dental hygienist for years; that's worth a dentist trip.

Fun unrelated fact: my mom was Billy Joel's dental hygienist on Long Island. He hated brushing his teeth, so he would just come in for a full dental cleaning every 2-3 weeks.

I used to get them all the time when I was in college. I worked in a pharmacy and one of the pharmacist would cauterize (sp) them with a silver nitrate swab after running a little water on the end. IT HURTS LIKE HELL for about 5 minutes, but after that it normally heals in 2-4 days. I never had one on the roof of my mouth, most were inside my cheeks, a couple of them were on my gums.

If it is a canker sore, I would recommend using a warm salt water rinse, it will help the pain a little.

It's a sore. I can tell by the color and I've seen a few sores in my time.

If you want to see some nice sores, do a Google image search for decubitus ulcers (bedsores).

I had my fill of disgusting image search crap yesterday just looking for "white thing in mouth".

The tooth is nothing but a tiny bit sore, which I expected since it's only been a few days and I'm weaning off of 3 different meds. I'm gonna take the majority vote and say it's a canker sore. Already doing salt water swishes and applying a little chlorohex solution to it. Gonna check out that Anbesol stuff too.

Not a canker sore. White part fell off yesterday morning and went to the dentist today because it hurt like hell. It looks like a gash or something now, dark in color, very very sensitive to touch. Dentist couldn't tell what it was, but gave me a whole bunch of drugs, including this pink mouth rinse that's just.... awesome. It's got lidocaine it in, so it numbs half my mouth, zero pain!

Also, Oragel blows. Lasted 10 minutes and wore off.

    It's probably just an abscess.
