Google "Wii broke TV" and look under images.

The Wii destroyed more TVs than angry housewives and sports events combined.

For the moment, I'm glad as fuck I have my Naga mouse, as the default keyboard control blows. Really hope we can emulate XI's scheme come retail.

yes yes! Numpad and Arrow Keys please! If not, it's gonna take me quite a while to get used to IJKL camera movement. I know they are planning on implementing this, I just wish they'd hurry up and do so. As in the OP it would be great if they bound the shift key to the camera, as that's how I use it in FFXI. And it took about an hour before I realized that you have to have NumLock on to use the numpad for movement... Slowga<---

Yeah, but the Wii f'ing helps!

    (hopes someone gets the reference...)

Keeping this on topic, I've continued to play with the wired xbox 360 controller with no problems, although I do wish the d-pad were a little less mushy. I really miss the keyboard controls from XI, being able to move with the numpad, while still controlling the camera with my thumb (so, one handed) was a pretty big deal. I'm still hoping they make the key bindings changeable, otherwise I may just abandon the keyboard alltogether.

Yet the success of Japan’s best firms masks wider weaknesses. Yoko Ishikura, a business professor at Hitotsubashi University, believes that Japanese bosses are complacent. “They are either too afraid to face the reality of the power shift,” she says, “or [they] want to stick to old, familiar models.” Yet the core problem is that Japan suffers from a gross misallocation of resources, both financial and human.
Japan has also lost its knack for getting the best out of its human capital. Its people are superbly literate and numerate, but certain cultural traits are holding businesses back. Respect for seniority means that promotions go to the older, not the most able. Young executives with good ideas refrain from speaking up. Retiring presidents are kept on as chairmen or advisers, making it awkward for the new guy to undo his predecessor’s mistakes. A rising executive at a big trading house says he was counselled by his seniors to keep his views hidden if he wanted to get on.

Speak to me of the naga. How does it work with ffxiv?

I'm currently using a first generation sidewinder mouse, but it's getting a bit grotty these days, as is my old g15, and I'm wondering if an upgrade to the lycosa mirror and the naga will be worth the £125 investment.

Game looks fantastic but unless they improve on the controls for KB + Mouse setups I'm probably just going to pass and wait on the KoTOR MMO.

edit: lol is that no endgame content comment from Tanaka real? I doubt FF14 will become the next Warhammer/AoC (both lacked endgame content at launch and pretty much died out a few months after launch) due to its existing FF11 fanbase but this on top of the terrible controls are going to drive away a lot of players from other MMO platforms.

Just set up a profile for the game assigning the thumb buttons to 1, 2, 3, etc.. Basically handle most actions with that along with camera panning while running with wasd. It's still kinda clunky, though, as I'd rather hit enter for confirmations than mouse and double click.

I'm used to controlling my avatoon with keyboard fully so I'd keep to that wholly if possible.

I'm not asking that to be taken away, I'm just saying it would be fantastic if there was at least a decent keyboard + mouse setup. Alternatives are great, you know.

wouldn't it be much easier to assign F as the confirmation so you can do it with your movement hand? It was easier for me at least XD

    - Adjustments to the main menu.
→ The delay experienced when opening and closing windows will be reduced
→ Exiting query windows with the cancel button will be made possible
    → Adjustments to chat controls.
→ Using shortcut keys to reply will be made possible
→ Sending tells to a targeted player will be simplified
→ The directional keys to control the camera will be changed in order to improve gameplay using the keyboard..
→ Closing the main menu with the mouse will be made possible.
Is this from before, or is this something new that hasn't been implemented yet?

these were done, but not across the board, some menus got way faster others stayed the same.

Control is all down to personal preference. I use a PS2 gamepad in FFXI to move player/camera and navigate menus. The keyboard is macros and typing only (Use Logitech G-11 for more macro flexibility). I've been like this for 6 years and I don't wanna change. I've recently tried a 14 day trial version of WoW for shits and giggles.... and I hate the mouse targetting system. Not saying it's shit for other gamers of course because it's the standard PC setup for FPS etc. and that should be catered for. But I for one won't get used to it after all this time on FFXI.

I find it so fucking easy with the gamepad. I can hold it one hand and move my character about and flick about on the D-pad to target party members... while macroing with the other. Might seem alien to others but it comes natural to me.

It almost fall under kb+mouse but it has the hybrid feel of gamepad+mouse--G13+Naga.

Assuming they implement hardware mouse and the controls are viable for use in the game, You could use a G13 custom profile and the mouse for triggering the macro bar. When I got access to the beta I brought up the control scheme and started devising a scheme for my G13. I came up with this:

One thing I don't have on here is a way to switch action bars to 2 or 3. I might replace a key once the beta starts up again.

The Naga can double for action bar or numpad controls if those wish to be used. I guess it doesn't have a lot of use right now since the control scheme is pad-optimized and doesn't really encompass the entire keyboard.

This is a true option though and should be considered. I utilized G13+Naga for Aion and Runes of Magic and it makes life a shitton easier than the standard kb+mouse combos. WASD movement is so 1990.

I see you have the G-13 running alongside the G-15. I take it you use the G-15's G-keys for standard in game macros then? If you use the thumbstick for movement are you gonna use the arrow keys on the keyboard for camera? I was thinking of doing this myself. Not yet bought the G-13 but I do already have the G-11 with 18 G-keys. How do you like the G-13? I would imagine it's better than the full keyboards.

Also how did you map the thumbstick to the movements? I heard that if you just map to W A S D or whatever it sucks. Best to set up an analogue gamepad for FF and set thumbstick to match pad?
