I found the n52te to be easier for myself since i have smaller hands. It does however have fewer buttons, but it shouldn't matter since XIV doesn't have 36 hotkeys to worry about. What i do love is that it has a scroll wheel on it that i use for auto running and tab targeting, depending on which direction i scroll. Normally i use both buttons on the mouse at the same time for movement and camera. I do switch to the thumbstick on the n52te for movements while i'm in combat so i can strafe and move backwards.

After about 5 min into the closed beta though, i just couldn't stand the software mouse and switched to a logitech controller, which made everything so much smoother. If the mouse ever gets fixed to what the standards are now, then i'll definitely be using this along side my naga. I just can't get used to using a keyboard for anything other than typing for some reason.

Not yet bought the G-13 but I do already have the G-11 with 18 G-keys. How do you like the G-13? I would imagine it's better than the full keyboards.

Also how did you map the thumbstick to the movements? I heard that if you just map to W A S D or whatever it sucks. Best to set up an analogue gamepad for FF and set thumbstick to match pad?
No I pretty much never use my G15 anymore. I have ctrl and alt set to the thumb buttons so i can use macros from my G13 with ease. While using the G13, I always use the mouse. I wouldn't bother having my hand on the keyboard if I am already using one in my left hand, y'know? Movement with the G13 is just as smooth as it is with a ps2 pad.

The G13 is simply an amazing piece of gear when used properly. As a PC gamer, I couldn't live without it.

I can't set anything at all, unless I'm supposed to do it from the config outside the game.

That's S-E for you, players complain about key bindings, they put key config in-game but it doesn't work!

And no, you can't change it outside of game.

You can config the keyboard in-game. I was able to do it, some how. Only thing is, you can't config the camera to the arrow keys. You can reassign the letters, but it won't let you do the arrows at all. Or the numpad.

Yeah, the "Lock" tab displays keys that are locked out for use.

You can reassign pretty much anything else AS LONG AS it isn't already assigned to a key. If it is, you need to FIND WHERE and then hit the "Del" key when that binding is highlighted. You should now be able to go and reassign what you wanted that key to do. It's a bit long-winded, but it works.

I ended up binding Num1 and Num3 to camera controls for left/right panning, and PageUp and PageDown for up/down panning. It's not perfect, and it'll take me a while to get used to it, but I also found the mouse runs much smoother. I could even use it to target mobs -- even with twenty or so nubbins standing around me. Though it's still not particularly accurate when there's a big bunch of people crowded together.

    Back to keybindings:

    1) Figure out what you want to bind.
    2) If you can't bind it, find out where it is already bound and hit Del.
    3) Bind the button you want.
    4) Unbindable buttons include the Number Keys (1-0), Enter, Escape, Ctrl, Alt, and the Arrow Keys.

That's still archaic too >.< Most games just delete the bind if it's used on another key for you.

    Thanks!

Its too bad that the Del key is probably unbindable as well? Since the Del, Home, End, and Page Down keys are directly above the arrow keys and in the same formation, it would be possible to use those instead.

The mouse isn't bad though. Its actually fairly decent, and I can get some nice pans while running without changing my direction. The targeting with the mouse is decent as well. My only problem right now is that the mouse is so slow. When I need to go from one side of my screen to the other (1900x1200) to click a little exclamation point and then to the other side to click something else, it takes forever.

Are you able to map the keys to WASD and Cursor Keys, just like Compact style in FF11? That shit was the bomb.

Someone on LolAllakhazam posted a gamepad mapping that mimics FFXI's gamepad layout (it's for a 360 controller but if you have something else you can figure it out)

FFXI style gamepad layout for FFXIV

Emote List/Stack Battle Commands: Right Bumper

    Cancel : B Button

    Select/confirm : A Button

    Main Menu : X Button

    Auto run : Left Bumper

Open Macros (ctrl) : Right Trigger

Target Lock : Left Stick (clicky)

    Passive/Active Mode : Y Button

Open Macros (Alt) : Left Trigger

Change View : Right Stick (clicky)

    Display Map : Back Button

View Status Effects : Start Button

    360 Buttons
    -Y-
    X-B
    -A-

Noticing an issue with keybindings. Since SE has still been unable to allow mapping of camera controls to the arrow keys I tried mapping them to WASD so that at least my hands could rest comfortably on the keyboard. However, I have since logged out 2-3x to make graphical adjustments and every time I log back in WASD are movement keys again. If I go to bindings they are still mapped to camera and if I back out of the bindings menu even without touching anything they will go back to camera controls, but I have to check the bindings every time I log in.

    This happening to anyone else?

PS3 Player controller optimization. FFXIV Gamepad setup

I believe this deserves its own thread for people who have a hard time playing with keyboard. PS3 controller and would like to setup their Sixaxixs PS3 controller with the PC.
(The mouse sensitivity is extremly slow for me and its impossible for me to play with keyboard)

For Xbox 360 Controllers you can buy a Microsoft receiver that comes with Disc and such (Cost about 20$)

I read that thread before... nor do i see anything about setting the controller up.
    This isn't a Pro/Con thread
but if this would belong better there feel free to move. Just thought setting up controllers would be a topic people would be trying to lookup

I haven't bothered rebinding since I figured out can't use the arrows, but that blows ass.
