    Weird Driver Issue

    Hey guys,

Just put a PC together and got everything working fine at first. I had downloaded a few things and was beginning to update drivers for a few things on the motherboard, and got to the LAN Adapter driver.

At first, Windows installed a driver for it from 08, so I figured installing the updated driver from the mobo disc would be the correct thing to do. Once I installed the driver, the port completely quit working. In device manager, it shows that it is working correctly, but in the network connections it says there is no cable plugged in.

I made sure the cable is plugged in, as well as trying all I can think of. So far, I've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers from the disc, Windows, as well as the latest from the MSI site. I have disabled the adapter and re-enabled it. I made sure it is enabled in BIOS.

From here I'm not sure what to do. One of my co-workers mentioned something in the registry, but I'm not sure what to look for pertaining to drivers. Another thing I just thought of is using a driver cleaner, but I don't know what program is good for that.

I can't think of anything else though, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

also for future reference, there is no such thing. The drivers on the disc you get with the hardware is always out of date because that stuff sits on a shelf in a warehouse for months. If you're able to bypass this and get drivers from the manufacturer's website, you should always do that instead. Just sayin.

Also, rolling back your drivers to the working ones is always an option

I tried both of those actually. I uninstalled it from device manager and tried the drivers Window had as well as from the disc and the website.

The ones on the disc were at least a little more current that the version Windows had. I just can't understand why the hardware doesn't work at all after updating the drivers.

No, the lights don't light up. I can take the same cable and plug it right into the other computer and it works fine.
