    iTunes question

    Hey,

So my laptop decided to break. I've lost everything, dissertation, holiday photos, software but most importantly all my songs!! (Back your shit up, I know, I know...)

My iPod obviously still has my tracks on it, but what I'd like to know is if theres anyway to transfer the songs from my iPod to iTunes if I redownload it, or do I have to transfer them all over again from CD's, and redownload them...

    Thanks!

If you're using an iTouch or iPhone, it's a little more complex to recover the files off your device.

Open iTunes, go to the Summary tab (should be the first one), make sure 'Manually manage music and videos' is checked.

Browse your iPod as a drive; copy pasta the iTunes folder (and Calendar and other stuff if you have stuff on there you want imported to your iTunes); and it should all be on your iTunes.

For the actual recovery of the raw files you once had, that's another story.

If u have anything purchased thru istore u can right click your iPod in iTunes and click on transfer purchases. For the stuff u ripped I'm guessing ur out of luck unless there is a program that can do it

regardless of your iTunes/music, get a 2.5" hdd to usb adapter and use your laptop's hard drive as an external drive on another system. even if it's the drive that was having problems you can most likely still read it as a non-system drive. you should be able to get everything (including your iTunes library) straight off of it. good luck. those adapters are cheap too.

PS - "SharePod" might also help pulling music from the iPod if you don't want to use the disk browsing way
