please don't apply FFXI logic to FFXIV, it's entirely possible that giving out free runspeed shoes in FFXIV would be nowhere near as significant as if they did the same thing in FFXI

Well, the relative "value" of traits and stats in FFXIV may be substantially different than FFXI. For all we know, +movement gear may be easily obtainable, and this item could be just giving it to us a few levels earlier (er, or some level-equivalent progress limitation). Indeed, for all we know about the final release version, everyone might need some amount just to reach baseline mob speed.

It makes sense as a premium item, since for many jobs +movement was a historical pain in the butt to get, so we look at it as being a highly valuable give-away. But I think it'll turn out to be a temporary benefit quickly outdated, otherwise post-release the newer non-FFXI players will QQ too much.

Sounds like a bait to get more people buy FFXIV, since mov. speed+ was among the most popular bonuses in FFXI.

I don't think mov. speed+ items will be as crucial in FFXIV as they were in FFXI since everyone has free access to teleports and mages get several crowd control spells at very low levels.
Of course SE isn't dumb and they're not going to add a mov. speed+ item other than this one as soon as the game is released.

Expect more "special treatments" for FFXI players until that game is completely dead. Milking at its finest.
