Yeah, you don't HAVE to use your server as your last name. Nothing forcing anyone to take this "perk." If nothing else, I'm happy with this because it'll prevent people from pretending to be people they aren't--no one else can make "Shanyn Cerberus" and go around pretending they're me except me, even though I would never use that as my character name.

And if people have concerns about this cockblocking them from picking the first name they want--The way FF14 works is that you can have the same first OR last name as someone else, just not both. So even if they reserve "Shanyn Cerberus" for me, I'm not cut off from choosing the first name "Shanyn" because of it.

They have nicknames under the original screenname in ff14. Kind of like how some forums have a thread topic then under it is a quote you can put under it in italics.

Maybe if someone switches servers to your server in the future, it will have their previous server name under their name if they happened to pick the name (Shanyn) and be on your server with the same name. Would piss alot less ppl off that had to change their name when the server merge occured.

The special item codes need to be registered with your Square-Enix account before you create your XIV character in order to receive your goodies, so you gotta' wait until you get your Standard Edition's Garlond Goggles code before you even start playing... Which is why I just did Standard Edition. Onion Helm looks downright retarded on top of having a lame effect (unless it's omg potent). I'd trade the bonus material and diary for the Goggles any day... I don't need to play a week early that bad.

I have heard no such rumor recently at all. There's been 100s of similar rumors started in the past though so I wouldn't count on it without seeing it officially.
