Actually, I've got it figured out now. The final update will be the Arris Dome.
If it weren't for Apocalypse Nigh, I'd start drawing parallels between Lion/Schala and AV/Lavos.

Dragon pants on MNK. That is all.
The thought of an entire Abyssea zone filled with gears and chariots makes me want to never purchase this expansion.
I hope they're all in same area, in groups of 5+ and all mob families link with each other.
sorry lol..
its just that my SMN practically grew up there so I knew it much better than even the crag areas until Abyssea came along...
and really, that area isn't so bad without the true sight Tauri scattered around..
if they're all in their families then it'd just be big.. but we have confluxes for that.
Well....people did want more challanges, guess we have our work cut out for us? i mean at 85, most of the current shit will be to easy anyway.
Well, seeing how Scars is obviously featuring CoP zones, and they've made absolutely no mention that the Abyssea would be requiring CoP, maybe what their plan is is to throwback to all the previous expansions... Not that Visions makes much sense with RoZ, but RoZ is pretty much standard with an original copy of FFXI so whatever. That could mean each individual battle pack would require an additional expansion to access (brilliant marketing tactic).
...Maybe the last expansion, Heroes, will feature ToAU since its the last expansion before WotG. Abyssea-Wajaom or Abyssea-Arrapago anyone?
The only thing they have made absolutely clear is that there may be a difficulty difference. When Visions came out, it said it was designed to challenge players 75 and above. Scars states that it challenges characters level 80 or above.
(I still think Abyssea-Zi'tah, and Grauberg/Vunkerl/Karugo would be kickass.)
the concept of throwbacks definitely seems to be there.. but i don't think that necessitates any expansions other than RoZ and WotG...
like, so far Scars already says it only requires those 2.. but uses 'remixed' versions of CoP zones. And since they're entirely new zones, such a requirement isn't needed so long as they can implement a way to access those zones from a location other than its real-world equivalent..
so that might point to more accessible ways of reaching the entry points / maws..
Abyssea - Attohwa / Lufaise / Uleguerand would seem like good choices..
and then perhaps
Abyssea - Grauberg / Vunkerl / Karugo-Narugo would make sense to me.. i don't know how the Near East would fit cos its not part of the main continent and the backstory so far does focus on the 3 nations.
Think of Abyssea like Chrono Cross.
The Heroes (Us players/adventures & Crono/Luca/Marle/Glenn/Robo/Magus) changed history and really f-ed timelines up. Creating an alternate reality were all the oddities, deformations, alternates get dumped off and jumbled together. With little structure.
Messing with time travel has repercussions!
I'm pretty sure that they will pick zones that haven't already been rehashed as (S) zones or Dynamis zones. In addition to the ones that other people listed, I can see Cape Terrigan as a decent possibility.
I do think Ule. Range is very probably though, if not for this expansion then for the next. It's the only "snow" zone that has no (S) counterpart, so it kind of stands out. It's also quite large.
As far as the storyline goes, I haven't really done any quests, but from what I do know the back stories for the NPCs are much different, implying that it may be just a different timeline completely. The existence of Archaic Machinery might have just as much to do with what exists in Alz. Ruins as the relationship between Chocobos in FFIV versus FFVIII.
Can't these zones be Vunkerl and Fort Karugo-Narugo?
