wasn't planning to install until I see back up managers
The fuck would you buy a Go for?
Kinda funny that Sony didn't release some big titles like Birth by Sleep on PSN, screwing over Go owners and now custom firmware fixes that. Monster Hunter Portable 3rd didn't get a PSN release in Japan either so I'm sure lots of Japs will be jumping on the "fuck Sony" train too.
But only if I can find it cheap as usual
The Go's design is great but the screen is terrible. I mean, the analog stick alone is worth it.
As someone who just bought a PSPGo, and have had a PSP-1000 since release day:
Overall, I prefer the PSP-1000, and i'd probably prefer the PSP-3000. To me, the PSPGo feels really "cheap" in my hands, although I will vouch for the nub being a bit more friendly. Using the shoulder triggers feel worse.
On the flipside, using a PS3 controller to play my PSP is fucking awesome. Less awesome that I can't remap the dpad to the PS3 controller's 2nd analog. I actually bought the stand, and video out wires, works plenty fine playing on TV, though it's obviously not as good as on the PSPGo's screen, it's still more than playable. Next i'll try outputting the video/sound to my capture device properly, if I can get it playing in a window on my PC, that's PSP sized, things will be awesome
Price wise: Locally, I found it for 149$ brand new, and a week later actually found it brand new for 100$ >_> Wish I had waited. I feel it's definetly a fine little device though, especially if you like watching movies on the go and such if that's your thing, especially if you can find it for 100$.
I really do prefer physical media, boxes for my shelf, but honestly, PSN is not that bad. There are very often sales (Last week Phantasy Star Portable 2 was 15.99, as was Valkyria Chronicles 2, I think I saw SMT3 or something for 15$ as well in the last month on PSN), and a lot of great games / PSOne classics you can get for 5-10$. Still, if you don't care about being able to use a PS3 controller as easy as plug and play, hands down PSP-3000 at the cheapest price you can get it.
Can't the Go still use Memory sticks?
Pretty much everyone that goes from a 1000 or 2000/3000 to a Go echoes what shukudai says. It feels cheap, shittier screen, lower battery life (can you use the new bigger batteries in the Go? I've never checked) and the dpad/analogue are positioned even worse than before for games that use both (Monster Hunter, Peace Walker, etc).
Being able to use a PS3 controller is certainly nice, but it's probably safe to assume you wouldn't be doing that much unless you're at home, where you can do it just as easily using RemoteJoy and custom firmware. Now that a new HEN is out that lets you do so on every PSP model and firmware out there there's little reason to get a Go. But hey, to each their own I guess.
Temptation every day to hack my fat 1k but I need to buy myself a 3k before I do that. One for ofw and the other for cfw.
Infrastructure mode with CFW can be risky.
If you don't know exactly what you're doing, you can get banned.
And even if you do know, there's no guarantee you can even get infrastructure working right with CFW on some games (Phantasy Star Portable 2, etc.)
Really? I've used adhoc party which should be the same thing right? Since its being hooked up to the ps3 I assume
