Yeah, if the PS3 becomes anything like the PSP/iPhone with various jailbroken apps and utilities I'll definitely do it, but experience has told me to wait a little while until it's well documented and isn't going to brick my console!

Wait until ISO loaders come out before you jump the gun, Geohot said he doesn't support piracy but you know there are tons of others that are willing to make the programs to boot ISOs

Not only that, gonna wait til next next firmwawre update, and see what it does to people who jailbroke theirs, and see if you can unjailbreak it after the update. If the security is as fucked as they say, it shouldn't pose a problem. Better safe than sorry with hardware though. Only a matter of time.

I heard nier and some other games worked on cfw too but I also read a few people bricked their shit, ima still wait

if the snes emu would be the only thing working. it might sound strange, but apart from being curious about hacking in general, i'm not interested in playing backups on my ps3. snes and some neo geo is all i want

Report: Sony could remotely disable jailbroken PS3s

With PS3 open territory for hackers and pirates, many have been wondering what action Sony will take to secure its system. The platform-destroying piracy rampant on PSP makes it clear exactly how much is at stake. To date, Sony's response to the jailbreak has been limited to mandatory firmware updates and revoking PSN access to those that refuse to use official system software.

However, a report by Digital Foundry claims that Sony can take far more drastic measures. Even if you've never signed up for a PSN account, your console will communicate with Sony servers every time it boots up. That initial load process is used to upload error logs, download updates to the "What's New" module, and a list of recently-run applications, including any unauthorized backup manager software.

Sony has yet to ban any consoles for taking advantage of the jailbreak, but the terms and conditions of the PlayStation Network make it clear that Sony has the authority to carry them out. Thanks to the system's constant self-reporting feature, "the company even has the means to irrevocably disable your console should it so wish," rendering affected PS3 consoles unusable, online and off. But will Sony ever use such a drastic measure? And if so, how will the hacker scene retaliate?

If these guys are as good as they sound, I'm sure they can disable the PS3 from going online with initial boot up. What if there's no internet connection in your area, or there are and they're all secured. Then what?

Given you won't be able to use PSN anyways, your best bet is to remove any network connectivity info from your PS3 and remove the ethernet cord if you're wired. CFW is a likely a one-way road at this point until we see what Sony will do down the road, and once the hackers figure out precisely what the PS3 does and stores so they can deal with it.

How would one go about doing that anyway, didn't see any guides on google, unless I'm looking for the wrong thing. Not that I'm rushing to do it, just handy to have in the future

There should be a connection profile you can delete under the XMB's Network Settings.

They will probably just do what MS has done with the 360 and ban the console from going online. Lawsuits would start if they disabled your ps3 in anyway, since you have to agree to install anything on your ps3 they cannot force your ps3 to install something without you knowing about it.
