Reading around yesterday, I saw $120 being thrown around as the price. Didn't do much investigating but that's what most of the /v/ threads were saying at least.

As long as it requires retail discs to copy it's going to require some big ass hard drives to hold all of this. Guess we'll see how this turns out, I don't think it will even let you download/burn blurays then transfer to the ps3, I think it has to be retail discs so the games won't be "free" unless you exploit gamestop.
It supports external HDs so downloading them shouldn't be a problem at all. But seems much more sensible for people to rent stuff or abuse gamestop like you said. I wouldn't like to constantly be downloading 20 GB+ games... doubt it'd take too long for your ISP to notice that.
Man, once Sony's lawyers get ahold of this guy, he is fucked.
Last time someone hinted about hack they took "other OS" from the system... so what will they take now? I go for ability to use outside HDD!.. all kidding aside the only reason i hack my old ps1 was to play imports but since ps3 games are region free i dont see the point for it. Of course you can play backup but i'm not interested in it... unless its Activision games.
i would kill someone's aunt for a modded ps3
true story.
The PS3 itself isn't even modded, it's as simple as just plugging in the USB and switching it on then pressing the eject button. If there is no way to patch/detect this then piracy is gonna be bigger on PS3 than on Xbox and Wii, as you have to go to a lot more effort flashing the dvd drive in xbox/Jtagging it, or installing cIOS revisions and homebrew channels on the Wii.
Way i see it sony will do a firmware update and will stop it from working, and they will most likely do what the psp does and requires games to have the latest version causing you to update. At $170 not something i would like to sink my money on till i know that fireware updates won't ruin it.
$170 way too pricy considering it'll get patched by Sony relatively fast. Also, pirating Ps3 games would take forever. Unless China already has black market Ps3 games shipping already, Sony will get this fixed.
Still very neat though and took them this long to break Sony.
Just so you know, this USB device lets people run unsigned code on the PS3. This means homebrew and custom firmwares are possible, assuming someone will take the time to write them. From now on it's going to be a back and forth battle between Sony and homebrew scene like with the PSP.
I can see a lot of people not updating firmwares and buying a second PS3 to do online gaming on, just like people do with piracy on the Xbox.
Finally a good reason to buy a PS3.
I'm really amazed (if it's truly real which it appears to be) they kept it secret long enough to fully develop it and manufacture units
If it is just some file(s) on a USB thumbdrive, I see no reason for their pricing (except for stupid people to waste money on). Seems like it will just get leaked out really quick.
probably just milking whatever they can get from the people who would go for first batch of production
on that note, can we have linux back now that it doesn't fucking matter anymore?

still no gameplay shown (or homebrew stuff) but at least it's a full review of the stick.
*smacks*
Was probably a fluke on their end that people discovered this, just like the service-battery for the one guy's PSP that a repair person forgot to remove from it before shipping out, which gave birth to the pandora battery.I'm really amazed (if it's truly real which it appears to be) they kept it secret long enough to fully develop it and manufacture units
Sony is already doing this with PS3 games, only reason people don't notice is because we're always updated to begin with since due to online requiring it.
Red Dead Redemption for example, requires a firmware higher than the one that removes Other OS.
I'm not sure how patchable that device is, but I'm more worried about the hack-free online play than I am cheap buggers.
last but not least, a vid showing actual gameplay: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xei...eak_videogames
p.s. since i don't have uncharted 2, is that the usual load time? almost a minute..
Uncharted 2 has a load initial load, then it's all pretty seamless from there on.
Anyways, this is what AUD$170 buys ya

yeah the initial loading before the start button screen is huge with the physical copy lol, so no negative change there
Should I just wait til someone hacks the hackers?
or is this usb dongle a unique chip type thing?
