Well when new firmware comes out, you would need to be on that firmware to be able to play online.

However, it could have spoofing like darus said (same as the psp spoofing). I've been playing psp games online from firmware 5.03 for awhile now, while the current firmware is 6.37

You can make backups yourself with real games right? Like borrowing/renting a game and then using one of those back up manager to back it up to an external HDD.

I still very hesitant to do this on my Fat PS3. I have an original 60 gig one. I don't want to brick my system, as I've heard this is doing to the older PS3's.

Sony Scrambles to Plug PS3 Root Key Hole, Will Use Serial Keys for Games

In an effort to curtail piracy and thwart any damage that might result from the recent public posting of security codes for the PlayStation 3 console. Sony plans to introduce a serial key system for its games, TechEye reports.

Earlier this month, George Hotz and a band of programmers associated with a hacking group called "fail0verflow" drew Sony's ire by uncovering and publishing root keys for the PS3. Sony's initial response was to take legal action against Hotz and more than 100 others it claims were involved, but there's still the problem of such keys now being public knowledge.

These root keys are used to verify that a game is genuine, and with that knowledge, hackers and pirates can essentially trick the console into recognizing counterfeit software as the real deal. With the new system in place, upcoming games will ship with unique serial keys specific to that Blu-ray disc, which the user will then have to enter into the PS3. If this sounds at all familiar, then you must be a PC gamer.

Citing an un-named source, PS3-Sense says Sony has already updated the PS3's firmware in preparation for this new verification system.

Thats Bullshit with the one folder drag shit, Mine timesout when there is a huge file to transfer, I think there is a cap before it timesout which is my problem I think, some files just dont transfer as well

That sounds like Sony just took a fat shit on the rental/used gaming industry if the codes are one time use and if they aren't then people would share the codes like wildfire. Sony should just admit defeat like MS and just stick with ways to detect and brick/ban consoles.

The trick is you need to force filezilla to only transfer one file at once, more than that causes the PS3 FTP to freeze

Edit > Settings > Transfers > Simultaneous Transfers : 1

What do you mean, 7 .rar? Winrar/7-zip/younameit can uncompress that.

You'll end up with a tree looking like that

(BCES5029) < It's not always there but sometimes the folder are doubled, you don't want to transfer that one.
-BCES5029 < the folder to drag and drop to whatever folder your backup manager uses, generally /dev_hdd0/GAMEZ.

What FTP do you use on the PS3? Gaia manager one? It's really weird, unless you're doing this on wireless cause I've never tried that.

Also Sony just released 3.56 FW. Time before new CFW? My bet's on a week.

Does this mean you can't access PSN on CFW now? I'm still toying with the idea of it, but I don't wanna lose Adhoc Party access, lol. I can't justify buying another PS3 for that when I never use it for anything else online.

You can use DNS to get on PSN for now, not sure how long it's gonna last but I guess there will be another CFW before it matters.

pretty sure blackbox freezes every 2 minutes on my PS3 too, Gaia Manager and Multiman embedded FTP servers are much better.
