HEy it's me again I am currently on CFW 3.55 and I got a problem

I had Multiman and Gaia Manager since like January 27 2011 (old versions) And Gaia worked fine for playing games I had LBP2 and Dragon Ball

But I havn't played Pirated games since like Febuary

Today I downloaded Uncharted 1 2 and Mortal Kombat and sent them all to my PS3

All work fine, but when I go to Gaia Manager and load exemple Uncharted, it still shows my old FFXIII disk instead of Uncharted.

Then I tried to load LBP2 which worked before and same thing happens it loads FFXIII

Is there anything that changed??? (Since I use the old Gaia Manager, I do load Lv2 launcher first)

Also can someone give me a link for the newest version or multiman and Gaia Manager (This might solve my problem) With the steps on how to install them

    Thanks

Ok gaia manager 2.07 worked I can run uncharted

No idea why it worked before with older version and now it doesn't

    Any
I still don't know why multiman doesn't load my games. When I click to load a game it sends me back to the desktop but the DVD didn't change

    Also

Mortal kombat ( the new one) game me 2 errors
In Gaia it says unknown error while multiman says I need 3.56 fw

What is the way to beat that?

Man, trying to get caught up with all this stuff is giving me a headache.

I'm still on 3.41, running a dongle, and I haven't really played at all, so I haven't modified any games that require later versions.

I guess I should install the 3.55 kmeaw custom firmware? That should let me play every game out so far (minus new stuff coming out that's 3.6, just portal2 atm i believe?) without having to modify anything in them?

Yep, although I'm not sure on the best way to go from 3.41 to kmeaw. Might have to go to OFW 3.55 then kmeaw. But it's likely that most games from here on out are gonna have 3.60 encryption like Portal 2 does, which means you're gonna be stuck for new releases unless someone cracks it.

Yeah, but I have a crapton of old games I need to catch up on, so I'm not worried.

Sorry for the late post, forgot I this sitting in a tab.

PlayStation 3 hacker Geoffrey Levand (or at least someone using his name) has released a PS3 Dual Boot GameOS / Linux Custom Firmware (CFW) which allows the dual-booting of both GameOS and OtherOS.

    PS3 Custom Firmware Downloads:

    PS3 Dual Boot GameOS/Linux CFW 3.41 (md5 9b439b04c4c0b841ae50c3af18bb584d)
    PS3 Dual Boot GameOS/Linux CFW 3.50 (md5 74b4291615ceb394e0d64078d775a93d)
    PS3 Dual Boot GameOS/Linux CFW 3.55 (md5 fac423010dc8e20030f28145a42627fb)

    PS3 CFW Tools:

    create_vflash5.pkg (md5 d76700a04cd58b29970d752b73dc6a0d)
    create_vflash6.pkg (md5 4ccea493c87299c3fe75ec3b093091f8
    create_vflash7.pkg (md5 78e432917ed972c415b3a0a703f4acaf)

    delete_vflash7.pkg (md5 8366318a4fafbd769bc9df0b6e528ea1)
    resize_vflash.pkg (md5 9a5cb0bcd819788749d2926111df6870)

    boot_gameos.pkg (md5 7377d1c89f4f67957cafe18a2e58d006)
    boot_otheros.pkg (md5 bf425926d3d55ab59828d5b6c2a2c333)
    reboot.pkg (md5 450fba966321445ec50360b21b9fa99b)
    dtbImage.ps3.bin (md5 761faa303c97d1801a9ecceb472321d0)
    boot_linux.sh (md5 6d00a46cd5586042c59c51f1f98e31f9)

PS3 Dual Boot GameOS / Linux CFW

Note: Currently to start OtherOS. boot_otheros.pkg then reboot.pkg and that will load petitboot. Slim users (Version 1.0-r0) you must unload the slim usb drivers in order to boot.

ps3mfw/tasks/patch_profile.tcl is to be considered unstable and should not be used at this time.

All tools beep twice if they succeed !!!

Source code for all tools and patches is freely available. Create your own dual boot. git.gitbrew.org/ps3/

    Features:

    • Into HV integrated OtherOS bootloader loader (compatible with OtherOS bootloader on 3.15)
    • OtherOS bootloader is booted directly from HV, no GameOS is involved.
    • Process of booting OtherOS bootloader loader is very similar to 3.15 method
    • Booting Linux from HDD/USB/BD/Network
    • Linux with GameOS rights
    • Full access to all HV SS services (Dispatcher Manager) from GameOS or Linux
    • Full access to all System Manager services
    • Ability to create/modify/remove repository nodes in LPAR 1 (e.g. with ps3dm-utils or ps3hvc-utils). This ability gives you much power over the whole system because many layers of PS3 use repository nodes to exchange information.
    • Enabled QA mode in Update Manager
    • Downgrading without USB dongle or Service Mode
    • Ability to deactivate/activate HDD/VFLASH encryption (e.g. with ps3stor-utils)
    • Suuport for ps3-utils. You can flash new OtherOS bootloader from Linux e.g.

    Notes:

    • Tested 3.41 and 3.55 on PS3 Slim with Gentoo and Debian Squeeze but should work on PS3 Fat without problems
    • Bug reports are welcome, send it please to [email protected]

    Work in progress:

    • Creating OtherOS partitions directly on HDD (not VFLASH)
    • Permanently disabling HDD/VFLASH encryption
    • Mapping of HTAB with R/W permission
    • SYSCON access from LPAR 2
    • FreeBSD support

    Installing OtherOS bootloader

    • Tested ONLY on PS3 models with VFLASH
    • During deleting of VFLASH regions GameOS will ask you to reinstall firmware, don't do it, just press PS3 button and continue
    • I use petitboot as OtherOS bootloader. You could use a different one.
    • The following order of steps is important
    • Delete VFLASH region 6
    • Delete VFLASH region 5
    • Create VFLASH region 5
    • Create VFLASH region 6
    • Install OtherOS bootloader on VFLASH with "Install OtherOS"

    Booting OtherOS bootloader

    • Run "Boot OtherOS"
    • Reboot GameOS with "Reboot"

Creating a VFLASH partition for Linux

    Notes:

    • Works ONLY on PS3 models with VFLASH
    • Warning: All your HDD data will be lost, so make a backup
    • I'm currently working on a solution for PS3 models with NAND flash
    • Resize VFLASH (creates a 40GB free space on VFLASH, if you need more then feel free to recompile it)
    • Reboot GameOS
    • Create VFLASH region 7

    Installing Linux with petitboot

    Installing Gentoo GNU/Linux from a Unix/Linux System
    http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-ppc.xml

    Partitioning with fdisk
    http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Partition/fdisk_partitioning.html

    Notes:

    • I used petitboot to install Debian and Gentoo on VFLASH
    • I used fdisk to partition ps3vflashh
    • Make sure you create a swap partition
    • Creating a ready to use Linux distribution images is a work in progress

    Booting Linux with petitboot

    Notes:

    • USB driver in petitboot has problems on PS3 Slim. The problem lies in Linux USB driver.
    • Currently i'm trying to fix this problem in Linux kernel
    • I temporarily use my boot_linux.sh script to boot a Linux installed on VFLASH from petitboot

So has PSN coming back up changed anything in regards to hacking? Or is that something we won't know for awhile? Is everything 6souls posted recently still relevant? I just got a PS3 from the gamestop deal so I'm trying to get an idea of what's available to do right now and if the guides for hacking are still relevant as well as see and what the risks are as far as getting banned from PSN. It's currently on 3.50 if that matters.

You can still hack it easily. Once you update past 3.55 however you're shit outta luck if you want to do so. Still no way to play on PSN on a hacked system, maybe it'll crop up eventually, but Sony will probably be cracking down on it entirely and will keep finding ways to shut people on custom firmware out.

I have since "unhacked" my PS3, but last I checked nobody had made a workaround for Portal 2 yet, which was the first game to have some new encryption. This also means other future releases probably won't work unless someone comes up with a workaround for those too. Basically, if you have an interest in upcoming games and/or playing online you're probably best to forget about hacking it.

That helps a lot, thanks. Is it a pain in the ass/not worth the trouble to unhack? Having not played any of the games there's like no less than a fucking shit ton of old games to play so I was thinking maybe hack > oh god so many games > unhack for new games?

It's simple to revert back to official firmware. You basically just throw the official 3.55 update on some USB storage and "update" custom 3.55 back to official 3.55 using the recovery menu (accessed by holding down some buttons when you turn on the PS3). Prior to that it was just a case of deleting everything dodgy off my PS3. Probably not even necessary, but leaving 10 GB games clogging up HD space didn't seem like a good idea.

I'm not sure of the risks of being banned however. I only played two games whilst mine was hacked, and I did it on a separate account on the PS3. I did use my (seperate) PSN account whilst it was hacked though (when it was possible, anyway), however I only played legit stuff when I did that. No sign of a ban, even after updating to the newest firmware since PSN came up, so I'm fairly certain I'm safe from here on out. Might be worth looking in to it a little more and see if there is any cases of people getting banned however, since I never really looked in to it much myself. Only people I did see getting banned were people using in game hacks to do silly shit in Modern Warfare 2.

It's gonna be a while before this happens. Brink is playable on 3.55, I'd bet L.A Noire is also. Just check ps3iso.com tomorrow.

If you have the money, just get a second PS3 (wouldn't try and exceed $200, though).

One last question about hacking, sorry! In regards to reverting back to OFW, I've read that the PS3 keeps a list of all games and applications that's run. Is there a way to get around this or delete/edit the list?

There was some homebrew app that basically disabled that list (made it read only, so nothing new was added to it, or let you clear it), but I can't remember what it was called. I dunno, I always just took that as some extreme paranoia so I never bothered myself, but I did hear some people saying that Sony tracked certain IDs and could nail you for it, never saw any real confirmations though.

Edit: Nevermind, 5 seconds in Google turned up the app I was thinking of.

Might be a more up to date version (or better alternative) by now, but there's a start at least.

Well damn, looks like there's little reason to update now unless you want PSN. Wish I had some spare cash to drop on another PS3 to keep on CFW now, but oh well. Hopefully it won't be hard to find a new 3.55 PS3 for a while.
