Does anyone know if the Slim PS3 they have at retail stores right now are hack-able // on hack-able firmware (3.55 i believe) ? My launch PS3 just died on me and I'm looking for one but wasn't sure the new Slim are hack-able or not since I heard something about they not hackable and I just want to confirm here.

I know they had a new hardware revision coming out at some point soon so I don't know if that'll change things, but when I bought my PS3 about 2 months ago it came with 3.50 firmware, so at least by then it was hackable.

There is a 3.66 debug out, I'm behind on update posts, but I'm not sure if that will work with slims.

It might. Or it might not. If you get a newer one, it won't, but you could just as easily buy one that has been sitting around the store for a few months. If you buy one from a store, be sure they will accept returns once you open it.

Ehh? That won't work on any system that doesn't say test on it, unless you have quite a bit of know-how, and can figure out various undocumented changes that need to be made. And even then, it's more or less useless anyway.

I jailbroke my PS3 around when the 3.55 hack was available, has there been any new things I really need to get on my PS3 or has it all been the same? Also, has PSN access for CFW been out yet? Thanks!

Only 3.55 users (either CFW or OFW)
There's no turning back. You'll be going to 3.66 and all that it entails. You may only downgrade with INFECTUS (dospiedras method).
No syscalls/payloads... so no backups, it's a firmware GEOHOT style.
3.55 Homebrew will cease to work.
There is no package installer (for now).
Full PSN access.
Works both on Fat and Slim (as shown on the video), no hardware tricks as some users have suggested in the comments.

Unfortunately, it's only a debug mode at the moment (aka not very useful for the large majority of people). Do not upgrade past 3.55 unless your PS3 is a fat that can be downgraded again via INFECTUS.

On the other hand, there's been some mixed reception to PSN access. Some are afraid that letting PS3s with CFW into PSN will lead to hacked trophies etc.

I assume that ability to downgrade fat PS3s is only if you're on CFW? I put mine back on OFW so I could use PSN, but it'd be nice if I could go back to CFW.

Not entirely sure about the CFW vs OFW downgrade process with Infectus myself, maybe someone with more knowledge could fill us in? What I do know is the 3.66 debug can only be upgraded from a 3.55 CFW base.

The debug options actually work with that? I thought they didn't, and it was functionally identical to 3.66 ofw? >.>

As far as hacking trophies, that has been possible for a long ass time. I don't really see why anyone would care about that, especially since they are useless anyway.

Infectus just flashes the nand, so what firmware you are on doesn't matter at all. In fact, you don't even need any firmware on it at all for it to work. It is a lot easier if you dump your nand will on <=3.55, since you could then just reflash the dump, and return to that, but it is also possible to manually edit the console specific information, if you do not have a previous dump to restore.

With infectus, yes.

Before you go buy one though, keep in mind it does need to be soldered on for the install, so if you have no experience with a soldering iron, you better be really damn careful if you don't want to buy a new ps3.

I have the MGS 80 gig bundle modded already, so I'll ask a friend to do it. Do I need to buy a 2nd PS3 and gut it or something?

Nope. Would be kind of pointless if you did, since you could just use the second ps3 for psn games.

It may be as simple as entering service mode at 3.55, dumping the nand, restoring nand when you want to, and exiting service mode. However, i'm not sure, as i've never done it myself, and am too lazy to look further. If you want, you could make a post on one of the various ps3 forums (psx-scene, ps3news, etc), and ask. I'm sure someone else can explain it better than me.

Also, it seems someone is working on a way to dual boot ofw+cfw (http://psx-scene.com/forums/content/...far-away-1239/), which may or may not pan out, but may be something to wait for before rushing off to constantly upgrade/downgrade.

It's been awhile. I've been googling and was curious if anyone knew if 3.72 was jailbroken yet or not? There is a bunch of things saying it is, but not sure if true due to a million surveys and every file i download being password.
