Since a month or so ago. psn has been available on cfw on and off since the beginning. It'll always be available now.

Is there any indication Sony can detect and is banning cfw consoles? Also thanks for the help, ended up using rogero from the guide at the PS3 compatibility wiki. Had a scary night in that during one update the output was a flat black screen and I had to hold the power button down for it to do anything. It was fine, though, firmware applied and everything works now.

There's a few ways they could detect it, but they've never banned anyone for it.

Does anyone have an idea of what a modded console on 4.30 v2 would go for, or has anyone sold one in the past to get an idea? I'm bouncing around the idea of selling mine, but not sure if it's worth it.

Probably <$50 more than it would be if not unmodded.

Sorry for the bump but I have a few questions.

I am wanting to return to CFW. I'm on 4.31. I've been looking around the internet, and would like a solderless solution because I'll just fuck up my ps3 like I did my microprocessor board back in college :D Looking at the E3 flasher, I can buy just the downgrader for $70. Or I can buy the limited edition thing which will come with the esata case and who knows what else, but that will come closer to $90~120 I think.

Alternatively, there's a guy on craigslist offering to basically do this for $100.

I'm really tempted to go that route because I don't have to wait for shipping, and I don't have to do all the crap myself. And it wouldn't be that much more expensive (the $70 isn't even factoring shipping, which will probably be another $15).

On the other hand, the downside is that this would be a one time deal. This doesn't seem like that big of an issue, as if I return to CFW I don't see myself ever returning to OFW, ever. But, it's nice knowing that I have a device that could unbrick my ps3 if I do something stupid, or that if I ever upgraded I could always downgrade again. Also, my boyfriend's ps3. I don't know if he'll play it anytime soon since he corrupted his hard drive and lost all his saves, but it would be nice if I could also hack his ps3 and cfw it up whenever he comes around. Or hell, I could offer to downgrade other people's ps3's as well, and maybe make some money.

I could always buy a flasher later on when I have more money..

What kind of answer are you looking for here?

Having someone else do it will obviously save you the time and trouble of doing it yourself, at the cost of a few dollars, but removing any risk of you screwing up the installation. As you said though, you'd lose out on the ability to use it anymore. For just yourself, this doesn't really matter much, unless you're really worried about bricking (don't install anything as soon as it's released, and there's really no risk of this). There will never be another reason to go to ofw again, so i wouldn't even consider that.

As for using a single flasher for multiple ps3s, i'm not sure if the solderless clips are meant to be removable. Make sure you look into that before buying one if you intend to, and aren't confident in your ability to solder.

apparently Ni no Kuni has some pretty vicious copy protection. If you're running CFW at all, even using the legit Ni no Kuni disc you will experience freezes about once an hour(it's random but it averages to this), and to reboot the game you have to pull the power from your PS3. This has a 1/10 chance of causing file system corruption, requiring you to format your hard drive.

I don't know, it's a rough decision that I'm going to have to make for myself. I was just hoping someone would have some magic reason as to why I should definitely go a certain route. Or maybe personal experience with the subject.

Lol what? Like this, if this is really true (I don't fully buy it,) if I had a flasher I'd probably go to OFW and then back. ;/

edit: apparently no issues w/ PSN version from quick looking around

Yeah this is playing with the legit disc or with the disc rip.

Seems hard to believe, but if that's actually the case I'll probably revert to OFW if there's no solution soon. I've read here that PSN bans aren't really happening for CFW so are there no precautions or clean-up needed before reverting?

You should still uninstall all pkgs, erase games off your HDD, and scrub your system (clear pkg install and pkg load history). it never hurts to be safe when switching from CFW to OFW. Sony could change their mind w/e they want.

One of the chips has a 2ed NOR. It requires some soldering but with it all you would have to do is flip a switch and change the HDD and you can flip from OFW to CFW and vise versa. You would need a second HDD but after you set it up it takes less then a min to switch between the two firmwares.

Is there anyway to downgrade from 4.21 to 3.55?

Alternatively, you can find some reputable people who can flash it for you if you'd prefer not to do it yourself.

I sent my PS3 on a Monday, got it back on Friday, and cost me I think it was $60 + $15ish shipping.

With an E3 flasher can you revert back and forth from any future firmwares? Would be nice to not have to worry about new CFWs and just staying on OFW until you want to revert for something.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but this seemed like my best bet without starting a new one and it does kind of belong in here since I want to go the opposite route, kind of.

I'm currently considering buying a PS3 that has Homebrew 3.6 installed, but I'd rather not use that. Is there any way for me to switch back to OFW and completely erase Homebrew from the system? I checked the Homebrew Wiki, but it seems somewhat outdated and unclear as to whether I'll be able to return to OFW with 3.6 installed since it mentions the instructions only working for 3.55 versions.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much in advance!

Edit: I found a guide that seems up-to-date, if everything works out, I'll make sure to further edit this post in case anyone else wants to know. Nonetheless, any additional input would be greatly appreciated.
