Thank you for your input! That certainly does appear to be an option, but I'm really not sure if this would allow me to completely erase the CFW and all traces of it from the system. I'll be trying to return it to its original state before updating.
Still haven't won the auction, but the reason for me buying a system with CFW installed is that it's the only PS3-model of this kind that is available right now; if I could buy one without CFW, I would, but alas, the one PS3 I want happens to have CFW installed. A most unfortunate turn of events, but nothing I cannot fix, it seems.
There's no need to erase every trace of cfw. No one has ever been banned from psn for using cfw, even when using cfw online, let alone for having previously had cfw installed. Just install the latest ofw and call it a day.
That does indeed match what I have read so far, but that's only a partial concern of mine; what I'm mostly concerned about is what the system would feel like to me. It's hard to put it properly, but do you know that feeling when you have a friend who's had herpes in the past? The dishes they used when coming over will never look the same to you again, unless you personally put your utmost effort into scrubbing them clean. For me, it would be the same way with the PS3 - thus, I have to clean it. No way around it.
Either way, thank you again for your advice!
If you're that concerned about having a "clean" PS3, maybe you should buy a new one![]()
Why would you even... you're hurting my brain.
That's an excellent point you raise there, it really isn't quite comparable to herpes, well countered! Nonetheless, my tendencies to keep everything clean tend to defy cold logic; regardless, you have my most sincere gratitude for trying to save me the trouble of cleaning the system. It just doesn't feel right to me, that's why I have to remove all traces.
Some things just aren't for everybody; I don't see why that's a problem, though I'm not sure who or what you're referring to.
Lol. I have cfw but the only thing i do on it is play roms. Man, i'm an asshole for playing lion king snes.
Think i'll play vectorman today on my ps3 of evil.
I'm certainly not taking issue with you doing that, that's just an assumption you make for whatever reason. I'm merely saying that I, personally, do not want to do that; you, however, are free to do as you please without having to justify your actions. I'm not condemning you for your actions, so if it's not too much to ask, I'd be happy if you could refrain from condemning me for mine.
This is not related to pirating but I figured you guys would probably know the answer to my question.
Just installed an SSD to my PS3 for FFXIV, but I forgot to transfer my GT6 (and other games) data over. I'm not concerned about most of the data but I am concerned about some that I have Redeemed Codes for unique content, such as the new GT6 packages.
Can I put my HDD back into my PS3 without formating it (with ethernet disconnected so that it doesn't try to link to PSN or update) and simply backup my GT6 save or will it try to automatically Format it? And then will I be able to swap back to the SSD without any problem? (again, not needing to reformat) I guess my question is, I know the PS3 "links" to the HDD and requires a reformat when you put a new drive in, but will it still recognize its OLD drive or does it only link to "one" at a time?
If not, could I use a 2.5" SATA drive USB connector to pull my data onto a USB on my laptop or is the data here encrypted in some way that would make this difficult?
If I can redownload/reuse my preorder bonuses on a new save file as long as it's affiliated with the same PSN ID, this isn't that big of a deal.
