So the bg server pretty fun?
So the bg server pretty fun?
Unless someone randomly burns down all your shit, yeah. You'll have to wander a bit to find unspoiled wilderness, though. Compasses are wonderful given how far-ranging people have gotten so far. Keep in mind there may be a wipe in the future if the next update requires it; it's supposed to fix a lot of multiplayer issues, though.
[Edit] Ragn's map makes a handy guide to where to head for untapped potential, people generally leave markers at interesting spots, so go elsewhere.
hmm so basically walk any direction for 10 minutes and claim the land kind of deal?
For those that keep asking:
Known bugs in Survival Multiplayer
- Health: Players and mobs are invincible. Enemy mobs can kill each other and also die from water and lava.
- Mob Spawners: Even with the monsters variable of the server.properties file set to false, Mob Spawners will spawn monsters. The variable does affect whether nighttime monsters spawn.
- Neutral Mobs: Sheep and cows are often unseen in SMP, while pigs and chickens will spawn often. Oddly enough, chickens seem to drop leather occasionally.
- Water and Lava: You can collect source blocks, but they will reappear shortly after being collected. Dropping them will create a source block temporarily, but it will not spread. Instead, it will disappear after some time. Other players never see the source blocks you place. As a workaround, a server admin can give a player (by using the /give command) source blocks (id 8 for Water, id 10 for Lava) to place in the same way any other block would be placed.
- Furnaces: Coal can smelt 8 items per lump. But in some cases, smelting a multiple of 8 items will use up all the coal, but leave one item without smelting. When cooking Pork, the furnace will not take any more coal after having burnt the first lump. The player has to close the furnace window and reopen it to continue cooking. The furnace will continue to show the fire animation after this, even when empty. Also, the animations in the furnace window (arrow showing progress, fire icon when consuming the fuel) seem to be broken as well.
- Trees: Planting a sapling and waiting a bit will yield tree trunks with a weird distribution of leaves, and in some cases, no leaves at all. Trees can also grow but be invisible, making it impossible to traverse a tree farm after a while. Rejoining the server appears to make invisible trees visible again and fire will swiftly cause phantom foliage to be made manifest. Trees with "weird leaves" cannot be cut down, as they regenerate instead of yielding wood blocks.
- Doors: A door may seem to be open, yet not allow the player to walk through it. Other players might see the same door to be closed and vice-versa. The door needs to be closed, then opened again before the player is able to walk through it, yet waiting too long may lead to the door closing on its own even when there are no pressure plates involved. When trying to destroy a door, it will sometimes split in half, with the top half open and the bottom half closed, or vice-versa.
- Pressure Plates: Don't trigger doors when set right next to them.
- Stone Buttons: In addition to not triggering doors, stone buttons may jump from the wall they are actually placed on to the one opposite upon being pressed the first time if there is just one block of air in between. They can then not be removed reliably without also removing the block to which they are attached.
- Tools: Dropping them (e.g. by pressing Q while holding them) and picking them back up will revert their damage to zero. Probably related to the player and mob server-side health issue. Applies to all items that take damage (e.g.: Armor).
- Paintings: When copying an SSP world onto an SMP server, paintings are removed in the transition. Paintings might disappear some time after being placed in a few cases. If they are destroyed after being placed, they cannot be picked back up.
- Boats: When they break, their materials (planks and sticks) cannot be picked up. Boats are invisible to other players.
- Wheat Seeds: To a player, it will appear that some seeds cannot be picked up. But to the other players, these seeds will be invisible. Hoeing the ground directly beneath you improves the chances of harvesting the seeds.
- Crops: The current growth of a crop will not update unless it is right-clicked by an item.
- Chests: Destroying a chest will spill its contents, and every item in the chest will be duplicated. Only half of the items visible to the player can be picked up, so no items are gained nor lost in the process.
- Redstone: Usually does not function, sometimes with slow and unexpected results.
- Minecarts: Minecarts do not function as expected. Minecarts can end up duplicated when used, wobble randomly, have their resource be unable to be retrieved, and cause severe client lag.
- Minecart tracks: Placing or destroying track will cause client-side performance issues, requiring the client to reconnect to the server. Failure to disconnect will result in the client becoming unresponsive.
- Reeds: Reeds can only be placed in water, will not grow and eventually be destroyed leaving a reed bushel behind. If one repeatedly places reeds in the same square they will occasionally duplicate.
- Arrows: Arrows can only be seen by the player that shoots them, you also can not see any arrows that a skeleton shoots.
- Blocks: Blocks in areas of approx. 5x5x5 around the player will randomly disappear / break and you can pick them up again.
Seems like a lot of new stuff went up today, so many things to see now![]()
After playing single-player survival as much as I have, multiplayer's lack of functionality is too boring for me... Is there any word on when a patch for that might be coming? I know everyone is eagerly awaiting it. Also, I'm boned when my torches are no longer going to last infinitely... unless lanterns simple enough to make.
mother of god...

if ragn ends up having to wipe the server, most of the people I spoke with last night are quite interested in Project Midgard.
making Midgard from FFVII will be our crowning achievement in safety and security from the zombie/skeleton/creeper horde.
It will begin with a spire rising from the ground to the height we are able to build. From there it will branch out to 7 massive plates, one for each of the prime BG Minecrafting groups.
The center spire will be our community holding center for building materials and primary safe haven. Teams will go down to the savage lands below, establishing small mining communities to help funnel supplies back to the spire and assist with the plate creation.
It is my hope that we can establish mining colonies for each plate, with defensive structures for dark times, as well as mine carts that function properly to funnel the supplies back with an escort. I also hope that if the mine carts do function, we can establish a transit system around the edges of each plates inner and outer structure to facilitate better movement.
Once the primary plate is established, we will build upwards and establish new plates and buildings, then build downwards to fill in the excess area, however we must be careful to not leave enough space so the foes we have arent guarded from the purifying sunlight.
where can I mine Materia?
I keep getting "Disconnected by server. Took too long to sign in."
Edit: and now "Can't connect to minecraft.net."
Notch is probably having issues with his server. This happens whenever he has too much traffic too his site. It should be up and running again in a few hours. And if not it should be working tomorrow.
I want to build the big fucking gun.
