This game is nothing like RPGMaker.
My brother introduced me to this a while ago. I just don't get it. It seems like a game I would have played on an Apple computer at school in third grade, after clearing the Oregon Trail dysentery-free.

I've been waiting for a Minecraft thread to pop up as well. I've been playing like crazy. Can't wait till Multiplayer survival mode comes out.
i just built myself a little house and put torches and shit all around it, do I just have to chill in here til sunup? how long does night last in RL time?
Night lasts 10 minutes if you include dawn and dusk. The hostile mobs can only spawn during the 7 minutes of actual darkness. I would suggest mining while you wait for sweet sweet sunlight.

Only fun thing I can see doing in here is building an amazing castle to keep the baddies out but once you build a basic fence are you pretty much safe from everything or can they get clever and break in?
You can build a 2 block high wall with dirt and you're perfectly safe. Notch (the developer) keeps saying he plans to add more monsters that actually pose a threat but who knows when that will come to light, if ever. Sounds like he's planning to add new ones for this Halloween update, so probably best to wait and see how that pans out before you considering spending money on this. If you want to play Lego you can do it in creative mode which is entirely free. All survival does is force you to tediously gather all the materials yourself to build shit with, which isn't hard in the slightest but can be exceptionally time consuming.
ok I finally respawned my map til I got one with a nice flat area that had coal nearby. I think I'm going to (eventually) make a nice little walled compound with various rooms and houses and a mine entrance.
I have loads of other stuff to play but I'll definitely be coming back to this here and there, not as hooked as I thought I'd be so I'm kinda glad I didn't pay for it (yet) lol
Fair warning, you usually have to start a new map or travel a good distance away from your stuff to generate new land after an update to get the new stuff. Some updates have required an absolute new map whilst others just need new terrain generated.
ok so I decided to give this another try and uh...
Half my house got blown up by zombies and then I found an entry to a cave which I walled/doored up and then started going down, upgraded to iron shit, then went back to my house and replaced the planks with stone, then fell into a pit and died. I got all my stuff back and now I'm wondering what the fuck else I can do, holy shit this is awesome
Not sure how to craft one given I don't play the game (yet), but the idea of a fast-transportation system via minecarts sounds like a cool idea for easy harvesting or gtfo'ing before nightfall hits.
Didn't the person just use an app to create the base foundation for it?
I honestly cannot see someone mapping that all out by hand layer-by-layer on grid paper. Even pro-LEGO builders rely on computers to do the grunt work for them.
He did it all in redstone/mcedit. Now the guy that did the 16bit ALU did it by hand and followed a great pattern.

Having a blast playing this game so far, but so far it's getting extremely frustrating running out of coal and having to run 30 miles for more. Don't much care to reload-scum my way to a starting point near obvious, plentiful coal deposits, and I HATE wrecking my better tools through tons of stone and not finding anything. I think I just have bad luck with starter maps, and I lose patience using stone tools.
if this game was on psp I would have constant car accidents
