close. In SMP put the stuff you want duped in a small chest.
1 person opens chest to view contents. While they are viewing it, player 2 breaks it down, and takes what falls out. Player 1 then manually removes the items from the chest window. Store the excess in nearby large chests, and repeat as needed. Useful for projects involving unusual materials, like an iron block robot man statue, or an obsidian castle.

Saw a video of people filling a pit 64 blocks deep full of TNT -- 28,000 some odd blocks. Took the server 2 hours to figure out what the hell to do with that. Made an AWESOME crater though, looked very natural.

as much as I'm looking forward to the new patch, replacing all the torches in my game with lanterns is going to be a bitch. maybe Ill just start over from scratch...

Any bit of your world that has already been explored (aka: generated) won't have anything new in it (materials/climates/etc.). So, it's probably best if most people start over fresh, especially if you've explored for days in each direction.

I'm finding myself starting over a lot, just because of the random nature of the land, I always feel like I could start in some amazing place with the perfect mountainfort ready to be hollowed out. I really fuckin' hope that lanterns don't take reddust or some shit. I could deal with maybe a chunk of coal with two pieces of iron or something. Also, I hope they can hang from ceilings.
