Holy Shit. I just spent 4 Hours strip-mining into the bowels of the earth, and building a 2-Floor Brick Shithouse this shit is like crack.
I need to turn mobs on so I can feel the terror.

Making obsidian is so ridiculous. I can understand needing lava, which is rare as hell already, but only being able to make 1 obsidian block per lava spring? Cmon, at least let the lava flow have a small chance of turning into obsideon if you made a lava farm...
Make a pool, 5x5 or so, and put lava springs along two connecting sides (left and bottom for instance). This should make the whole thing fillup with source blocks. Once you get this funtional, you can make an infinite lava source next to your obsidian troughs. You still have to move several lava blocks, but at least you don't have to keep pulling them up from the depths.
...wait, does that work with lava? I've only done it with water, so I'm not 100% sure lava reacts the same way. I should go find out...
I'm fairly sure it only works with water. From the wiki, because lava flows slower than water, it aparently can't -make- springs naturally, so there's a finite number of lava springs you can actually have....meaning a finite amount of obsidian per level (well, since levels stretch on endlessly it's not really finite, but you know what i mean)
Yea, you can make endless water springs, but lava is limited to the amount of lava springs generated on the level. I'm hoping they add ways to get the block, cause it's always in demand but damn near impossible to do anything useful with because of the short supply.
You can make infinite lava the same way you make infinite water.
Who blew up my house? It was the one with the sign that said uncle toms cabin out front. that shits messed up yo
I've made still lava springs from buckets, it's just slightly annoying because of how slow it reacts to anything you do. I was trying to make a lighthouse on a mountain top and I figured a 3x3x3 cube of lava encased in glass on top of a stone tower would probably be the best route for its light-emitting properties. Unfortunately, if lava is enclosed, even in glass, only its surface emits light. Lame. So, I broke out the bottom pieces of glass and the lava poured out of the glass enclosure, down the tower and is running down all sides of the mountain. I pretty much made an epic volcano instead a lighthouse.
Someone went crazy with the TNT and blew up a ton of stuff on the BG server. Its not cool.
You can't make lava springs the same way as you can with water. Lava, no matter how many blocks you put together, will never make more source blocks.
The sooner the duping ends, the better.
What was blown up? I was finally able to jump in there just now (and wow, there are some amazing creations... just wandering around looking for a nice hidey hole). I saw a few craters, but since i have no idea what was there before... I can't tell if it was just normal demo or someone ruining things =(
Erm, I demo'd my two towers and my skybridge, I accidently blew half of Cayos's lil hideyhole away, but as far as I know I didnt blow up anything else.
I just found one o' them above-ground dungeons sticking out of the side of a mountain. Random generation is fun... although every time I settle for a world, I feel like there could be something so much more awesome if I retry a little bit longer...
Also, Notch just posted a video demonstration of biomes. Stretches of desert look pretty cool~

sounds quiet interesting!Biomes. They’re not final yet, but this is about how they will be in the Halloween update.
Monster spawning and terrain features can be tied to individual biomes, so some biomes could get special trees, or special mobs, or different grass, to make them all more unique.
What's up with that topside lava flow he zooms past in the dark @4:44?
