Ladies and gentlemen, I believe I have found Epic Island.

Started up a new world and got put on this decent sized island that looked prime as a hub base. While exploring I found a very lengthy natural cave system that had 2 lava points, 2 underground water points, iron ore (112!! until I ran out of picks), gold ore, redstone, and.... DIAMOND. I actually got lost trying to find my way back up to the top. Kinda worried if I can make it back down to find the diamond, lol.

Explored the top more, found a single tree that gave me 23 wooden blocks. And when night fell I found a mini-cave with a mini-lava waterfall. All on the same island...

Ok who is the smartie pants who put a row of TNT in a cave underground so long that i can't see the end of it in either direction?

It runs under my luxurious new condo and its dropping the value with the soon-to-be-shattering thats going to happen when you light that thing off.

BTW Fixing duping or not we need to reset the server because of all the TNT usage.

Hmm, I see the Automap Mod and the Hey0 Server Mod. I might be completely blind though from hours of mining... found my first two Diamond Blocks though =) I may as well just wait now, since most likely all mods will be broken come Halloween Update.

Been working in a Natural Cave for awhile now, must have over 12 hours exploring/stripping what resources I see while doing down. I was surprised the entrance was so close to my house. I've been trying to make navigable with stairs and signs, placing fountains or other landmarks on the way. A very slow process but I really do hate digging a new staircase from wherever I am when I run out of supplies since I can't walk out.

My first go I didn't get anything besides Coal and Iron before I ran out of wood and torches. Did a more prepared run and found a zombie spawner (near entrance oddly enough) and 20 obsidian squares (no diamond or diamond pickaxe). My third time exploring a path I didn't cover and I've found 16 diamonds and a mother lode of obsidian and natural lava pools. I mined enough for three portals and set one up at my spawn, my house/mine (3~5 minute walk from spawn) and I'm hoarding the rest until tomorrow.

I've still got a ton of area to reform and more I haven't even seen. It's almost depressing.

Is there any way to play single-player creative mode without being in a browser? I want to recreate Britannia, but I don't want to have to gather the materials.

Also, I don't know if having multiple obsidian gates anywhere within walking distance of eachother above ground will do much for you, as they will only be 1/16th the distance apart once you go into the Slip. Aside from being a source of new materials, I think the Slip was primarily designed for traveling long distances.

Since the entire structure is 4x5, does that mean there can't be more than one gateway within 64 units of each other? At least from side to side. Assuming orientation and such is preserved, you could have them closer if you have them facing each other as opposed to side to side.

First thing I plan to do there is build a safe enclosed hallway, shielded from ghasts and well-lit to prevent any from spawning inside it. Then construct a gateway every so often and then exit out each one and see where I end up in the overworld. Better than building them on the overworld first (except the first one to get you to the Slip in the first place).

Unless he does something silly like make it so you can't build gateways in the Slip, so they only appear there as a result of one having been built on the overworld first.

Though I wonder how conflicts will be resolved. Say someone makes a home in the Slip, then a person unknowingly builds a gateway in the overworld and it ends up being placed in the middle of some blocks that were already constructed in the Slip. Or worse, what if you go through the gateway and you end up over lava.

I would make the quick assumption that any gates being materialized in another dimension as you ignite one will be placed by default on top of any blocks that already exist on its designated 1x4 coordinates... which might be what would happen if two gates are built within close proximity to each other above-ground. Either way, it'll be pretty crappy if someone's gate lands on top of on inside your house. I'd break down that crap real quick. A covered/lit walkway between gates within the Slip is how I would probably go about it as well. Ghasts' ability to blow shit up worries me about making any kind of permanent residence/structure within the region at all.

But, I take that back about a gate near your caves and your home, as it could take a 5 minute walk and turn it into a 20 sec walk with a relatively small distance to protect with tunnels within the Slip... assuming they aren't quickly blown to shit by Ghasts as they might detect you through walls like enemies like to do.

Also, I have more of a technical graphics question. I'm running it full-screen 1920x1080, "fancy graphics," full draw-distance, default textures, etc. Is there any reason I would be getting less than 60fps in this game? Snowflakes lag the shit out of me too. I can run XIV pretty damn successfully with this machine, but Minecraft snow makes it choke. Is there anything I can do to optimize my machine to run Minecraft? Maybe a Catalyst profile?

You can use NBTedit to give yourself crap and just turn the difficulty to peaceful.

There is a lot I am going to test with the Slip gates such as a ghast destroying the gate when you're inside, does that destroy the corresponding portal too? Or, does the gate in hell get made everytime you use the gate in the overworld?

Don't you make them out of Obsidian? Probably can't be destroyed, at least by enemies at least.

Obsidian is usually immune to explosions, so it should stay safe I think.

Also, it looks like SMP damage won't be fixed in this patch.

@notch What everyone wants to know is the status of Health and damage in survival multiplayer.

On my machine Minecraft is incredibly memory-hungry, so I try not to have a lot of things running in the background when I play.

Sounds like the game got updated but the server hasn't been. Minecraft.net seems to be down for the moment (probably cause of traffic) so not sure what the update was unless it was the halloween one.

No Lanterns yet =(

EDITEDIT: There we go, logged in and got a few updated files. Trees and grass look a little bit different to me. Just going to run as far as I can see if I can find any Biomes. This may be some kind of pre-update though? With the rest coming tomorrow?
