You get Obsidian when water touches a lava source block. Go mining towards the bottom of the map with a bucket of water and throw some on lava. Easy Obsidian.

Chickens drop feathers? I've never seen a chicken drop anything only seen feathers from zombies.

Random chance of dropping upwards of 2, like with pork from pigs.

chickens definitely drop feathers. Easiest way to get chickens (and pigs, and cows) to spawn is to have a well lit grassy area. I wall off my whole town area and put lights around everywhere, usually there's animals all over the place

I have a shitload of pigs in my area, but no cows, and chickens are a rarity. Have yet to read about the spawning algorithm, wouldn't mind knowing if the kind of animals that spawn are location-based, or just random.

I think sunny alone is needed. I had a small like 2x6 tunnel of glass leading into my fort, closed on both ends by a door. Every single time I come out of a cave and go home, I see two random animals stuck inside this area and I'm like "Wuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhttttttttttttttttttt ttttttt?!"

At first I thought the animals were cute. Until my greenhouse was constantly invaded by no less then 4-5 Sheep/Cows at any point. After listening to them moo & baa, I learned the joys of setting the ground under them on fire. Now I can't help it anymore when I see a random cow/sheep ;x

Are there any tricks to getting a large amount of lava to sit flat so that when I do pour water onto it, it turns into obsidian and not cobblestone? I made myself a 1-block deep trench for this one lava spring to come into, but I can't get it to sit flat for the life of me.


On another note, while mining for an hour, came across my first mob spawn-room with two chests inside. Finding the vine-stones cool, I mine them up, and hello! Found 4 diamond blocks behind one of them. I'm pretty well off as things stand aside from possibly needing to plant myself a forest as I keep running out of wood. Not sure what to aim for next after I make my first nether portal.

You have to pour the water on a lava source block. So the spring you're routing basically. What's worse is, unlike water, you can't make new lava sources. You have to go find them.

The water has to pour onto the still lava block, you can't just drop it on top right?

Going to be a real pain in the arse finding 10 separate pools of lava just to make my portal. -.-

You might be able to drop it onto the source block. Can't remember. But if you dig down far enough you can usually find a deposit or two. I always run into like 8 obsidian deposits before I find any diamond.

I've yet to come across obsidian at all across three worlds. Should I just dig down from any point, or should I look for caves and go from there?

the best way to get obsidian is to find the underground pools of lava, where it's spread out to large flat spaces. Sometimes you can find natural caverns with a layer of lava, or maybe when mining you break through to a lava pool, usually you can mine out the rock above it. Then you pour water on any block above the lava and it'll spread out, turning all that lava into obsidian.

Took another hour and some luck to find that large flat area of lava. Tricky part now is getting the lava underneath it cobbled/obsidian'd so I can pick the shit up.

[EDIT] Just got my ass handed to me in the Nether. I'd be tempted to build a fort there, but no sky, and fuck those noises.

I'm taking it cartograph hasn't worked properly since the halloween update? I just did my first isometric render, and it looks like I have a full sky of dirt over 1/4 of my land with lava raining down, lol. It's like it's trying to merge the contents of the nether and normal world together without the tile data for the nether.

For mining obsidian when theres lava under it, I always mine one block, place water where it was and take it from there (don't/be careful when mining next to a wall).

The water will instantly turn any lava into obsidian and prevent the block from burning, just need to remember to move or place another water source before you get too far out.

First of all, most “mods” that add new features to the game are in a very gray area legally, and I frown upon them. Most of them add really cool new features, though. It’s highly likely that something like the bridge mod will make it into the game.
Now, the update.
I was going to release this today, but it’s 6 pm already and my fiancée turns 30 today (I love you, ez!), so I’ll go eat a nice dinner instead.
Here’s what’s already done for the update:
General fixes:
* players and mobs in lava or fire no longer spam sound effects
* getting hit with a higher damage while recovering from a smaller one now works as intended
* lava flows further in the Nether
* zombie pigs eventually forgives
* added support for custom texture packs
* fixed duplicate buttons when resizing screens
* zombie pigs and ghasts no longer get hurt by fire or lava
* fixed volume sliders now saving properly

Multiplayer fixes:
* hellworld=true no longer overwrites old save chunks. Player positions will still break if you switch it on a running server, though
* boats are now visible to other players
* minecarts move nicer
* fishing kinda sorta works, but needs more work
* sheep and cows look like sheep and cows now
* buckets work now
* fixed stairs being really difficult to destroy
* increased the timeout before “Took too long to log in”
* made it possible to ride carts and boats (pigs should work too..)
There are a couple of bugs left, like it not being possible to steer the boats yet, and other players not having the riding animation when riding. Fishing also works horribly poorly. Once I’ve fixed that tomorrow, I’ll release an update for both the server and the client.

Good riddance to lava-sound-spam. I nearly shat my pants a couple times in the Nether as a loud screaming would just occur out of nowhere because of that. And whoo, minecarts/stairsets fixed.
