    New PC Build

I sometimes offer advice here on these boards and just wanted to share my most recent build with the community.

    i7 980x
    2x EVGA GTX 470 SC's
    EVGA E760 MB
    2x Intel 80gb SSD in RAID0
    Other stuff...

    Don't ask how much I spent - It's almost shameful, lol >.>

GPU waterblocks or GTFO... seriously the new Nvidia series OCs like mad with water cooling. Nice setup though I really like that corsair case. How are you feeling about the case in general I really like the build quality but i'm skeptical yet due to the price.

How are your case ambient temps? I hear the 700-800Ds get kinda warm inside.

I was also quite concerned about the case and ambient temps but honestly, I'm suprised...

The 470 SC's are idling around 45C - I had a GTX 275 in an Antec 1200 (AKA Wind Tunnel) prior to this and w/ the fan on Auto like this is right now it idled around 42C, or so... Also, I have the 360 rad and the top with push/pull bringing outside air INTO the case so the air coming through the radiator is cooler and these are the temps I am seeing on the GPU's. I'm suprised, all in all.

I do plan to watercool the GPU's but w/ how much I spent on all this and it being my first shot @ watercooling I kinda decided to make sure I could get it right first and then I'll do the GPU's in the near future

What did you use to get started, did you use a kit?

I want to get started with real watercooling, but it's kind of overwhelming with all the conflicting info out there.

No kit - I just did alot of reading and the community on EVGA's forums are awesome people. I got alot of input from a handful of people over there. I bought all the parts seperate and put it all together myself. This was my first shot @ it also but if you're savvy enough to put a PC together (which is really not that hard..) then you could handle doing this.

If there's anything I can help w/ in regards to direct questions just let me know. I am new to it myself but would be more than happy to answer anything I can

I think they mean it's intimidating cause IMO, it really is. I researched my tail off and ordered everything. When it all came in and was sitting my living room I have to admit - I was a bit overwhelmed.

Jonny - Gilbert, AZ? Seriously? I live off Gilbert Rd & Lp 202

Corona, Well, I don't even know how to get started, for starters I need to reserve a budget, how much am I looking at? And well maybe PM me some links to get started on the reading.

I've been building PCs for years so not really intimidated by that aspect, but watercooling makes me feel like a nub.

well depends on what you want to Watercool some GPU blocks can cost you a pretty penny but cpu, south and north bridge are ok in price i say if you do 1 gpu and just cpu maybe 300-400?

It all depends on your budget - You could do it cheap or you could do it big. I spent 5-600 on my loop. Here's a decent read if you're on a tight budget:

I'll be reading through that, already found some threads on the evga forum I was looking through. Thanks.

I have around $400, and I'd want to cool my GTX480 as well, not just the cpu.

edit: but I'll start with the cpu for now

You could MAYBE do both if you went on the cheap side - My guess though, to do both the CPU and GPU it's gonna be a bit over $400. If I had to recommend a site to get your stuff from it would probably be Performance PC's - Frozen CPU, Sidewinder Computers, and Jab-Tech are also okay. I bought all of my stuff from Performace and Jab-Tech w/ the majority being from Performance.
