Need more awesome scorpion pics. Those were emperor scorpions right? I thought they were solitary dudes, didn't know they we're ok with living as one big happy family.

Yup, emperors. Most pandinus (and heterometrus, see the giant pile of spinifers a couple posts back) species are semi-social; it's only dangerous to keep them together with gravid females, otherwise they're non-aggressive. Kinda hilarious when they fight over food because they won't try to hurt each other, but kinda tug-o-war with the insect until it splits into pieces. They'll guard a molting sibling in defensive posture, too.

Runt died a week or two ago :/ Guessing he had some kind of genetic defect because it seemed like his exo was calcifying in addition to the weird pigment. Oh well, still have 17 healthy ones, 9 of 'em molted into 3rd instar by now.
