Incoming logic:
Okay, pretend you have a ten foot piece of wood and you want to have two equal pieces of wood that measured three feet each. It takes five minutes to make the first three foot piece of wood, and another five minutes to make the second piece of three foot wood. If the questioned ask how long it would take to make a third piece of wood it would be fifteen minutes. Again, a ten foot piece of wood can be cut three times if you wanted three equal length three foot pieces.

What if you just wanted to cut a board into 3 equal lengths, then you only have to make 2 cuts. The original problem did not have enough data in the question to have 1 correct answer.

Wrong, the problem did have enough information. She was working at the same pace. Takes 10 minutes to make a cut per the question, not 5 minutes to make per piece.

The lacking information was the size of the board she was cutting and what size pieces she was cutting it into.

It's the assumption that it's the distance/time of her cuts that is the same, not the cuts/time.
