    Symantec Endpoint install Issues

A job has me setting up both wired and wireless access for incoming students at a college. The process in which I have to set up a PC laptop is as follows

-Uninstall w/e current anti-virus they have
-Install Cisco Clean Access (allows access to the campus network)
-Install Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 64 or 32 bit
    -run SEP update file
-configure the PC to use the Wireless network

My issue is with on Students PC, A dell inspiron about a year old, had windows vista 32-bit, and despite how many reboots I did, when I try to install SEP 32-bit it would give me a message that there are system changes pending and I require a reboot first.

I tried running malwarebytes, killed 1 infection and that did not solve it.
even tried running various AV removers and nothing.

    what could be causing this?

    thx in advance.

Are you seeing the message from the client or from server control panel? SEP messages that appear on the server control panel have to be released manually sometimes, and this includes reboot notifications as well as virus notifications.

make sure their local account has permissions to, backup & then delete the contents under this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations

    does this help?

If what rezn0r said doesn't work, this method a friend of mine had to use a couple of days ago will do the trick.
-Download the Orca MSI editor (either as part of the Windows SDK or you can google -around for a standalone).
-Run Orca and open Symantec AntiVirus.msi or whatever the msi is called via it.
    -Change
    NOT (MsiSystemRebootPending = 1) AND NOT (REBOOTREQUIREDOSAUTOUPDATE = "1")
    to
    NOT (REBOOTREQUIREDOSAUTOUPDATE = "1")

I am directly and physically using the Students PC, so client side.

Reznor, actually I did try that, but no dice.

I will try snowknight's idea next time, but for now all they had me do was uninstall Cisco Clean Access, and then download Microsoft Security Essentials and use her MAC address to bypass the whole restriction the Cisco Clean access did when accessing the network.

Someone did mention to me about setting back to a restore point. This sound like something that might work?

The college is in a Downtown area of the city so they want only students to access it.

Funny thing though, Macs only need to be configured for wireless access, and don't required all the bullshit PCs have to go through.
