I'm keeping the pre-order for one reason.
Gonna take a shit in the box and send it back to Tanaka.

So as it stands currently, it looks like we have 8 hours upon logging in to exp as much as possible before the timer runs out and we get penalized? Or is it an specific amount of EXP accrued within 8 hours?
At least it appears Komoto will be providing developer feedback and explanations this time. That is more communication than we ever got in FFXI. They never took the time to explain anything like this.
I'm throwing my hat in the "this is stupid" ring. Really, REALLY stupid. I could live with rested xp like WoW, but a fatigue system, without any information in game to show you were you are, from a company that hates giving out information that would be useful to it's players just tells me to avoid it all together. Saved myself 100$ next month.
You know the game will still have massive grind, probably even quite alike to FFXI? The difference being is that you won't be able to decide when and how much you want to exp, because S-E decides that for you. This is a video game, a form of entertainment, for which we are supposed to pay monthly. Players want to be able to play whenever they want/can and not be dictated otherwise. And they are screwing casuals (beside hardcore casuals that maybe log in once a week for a couple of hours) the same way as other people atm, no matter what you want to think.
I think the xp/skill should diminish to about 10% or so after a while but never to 0%. This way it works like a rested system in other games.
Human beings will "waste their time" on a game to the point of physical harm at this point. S-E and other game designers have realized that MMORPG's are the videogame equivalent of crack, and that people will play their game until they wreck their real life chasing exp and gil around. Fuck, people have starved their kids to death for random gaming, or played till they died on Starcraft, literally in both cases.
If they don't, we're going to see more shit like what China already does- limiters placed on gameplay. S-E's just doing it voluntarily as part of the game, rather than the next bunch of outraged parents shoving "game mods" down the throats of Congress. It's the virtual equivalent of putting up a wall so you don't jump off the bridge.
I can just see how the review of FF14 is going to go down by the media.
"How is FF14 looking?"
Reviewer: *makes fart sounds*
"sounds awesome"
Delay the release, and then do rested experience when they have actual content to provide.I don't like this system, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE THEY COULD DO.
Even aside from surplus, the game is not ready to be released in this state.
A grind that casuals can tolerate = A grind where you can make progress in a reasonable amount of time.
This is, of course, something people overlook because SE doesn't know how to market their systems to the public.
I agree that the game is not ready to be released, but they are not going to pass on months worth of revenue just because we think so.Delay the release, and then do rested experience when they have actual content to provide.

If they think they can do this, they will. Provide them with good enough explanation as to why you are sure that the game will tank as is, and they might listen. It's you vs. profit.
You know damn right if they remove this system or reduce its effects enough, they will just simply kill the skill/exp that everything yields to balance it out. You're not going to win this one, just hope they realize that catering a game towards one type of customer more than another on launch is a bad idea.
Quoted for truth. Anytime FFXI discussion comes up on non fansite random forums people complain about how they tried it X amount of years ago and they quit because hated finding parties or 'whatever that dunes area was'. Noone cares that SE has added FoV, or level sync. No one (except us) cares what SE fixed or improved on, first impression is everything.
They might as well start calling classes "Jobs" again, if they are promoting 8hr shifts. People just want to come home from work and play the goddam game, not keep track of how many hours they've clocked in on Archer.
Surplus is gonna need a meter, and inb4 FFXIV windower with a 'Surplus Timer.' They need to get rid of physical surplus altogether imo.
there is no rested system. rested is essentially guardian favor.
You start at 100% xp for 8hrs. Each subsequent hr, after those 8hrs, you lose 10% of ur xp until you reach 0%. Even if they left you w/ 10% xp.. nobody is gonna kill shit when they need (even) 20k tnl and are getting 10-50xp a kill.
So it seems people were hitting the surplus due to the adjustments made in XP gain from leves/mobs. I have a feeling that by launch this will be a non-issue and people can still play to their hearts content. It'll be interesting to see how this turns out by retail.
Wasn't there people hitting the level cap during the beta even with the surplus?
