they can just have a cap. this is just foolish this isnt pvp

    simply put.

gulkeeva being high level effects hyan being low level how?

they can keep the bonuses and even keep the same exp curve. give good quests, good story good items to hunt and people will be fine. They can play other jobs AT THIER CHOOSING.

some one who plays 1 hour a week has a totally different expectancy and desire than someone who plays 10 hours a day. they all level at different rates for a reason. they should simply work on making all levels have entertaining things to do for as long as it takes to get to the next level.

    Kind of off-topic though?

I was being specific to MMOs, which is a little unfair because if/when WoW2 comes out, my argument is nullified.

But then again, if SE is not considering their FFXI playerbase as an FFXIV resource, they're retarded.

If it starts at 100% drop rate, and is tweaked a little... fuck yes. Finally a good idea from you.

This is SE. The droprate will start at 12-15% and go down from there.

You know this. I didn't have to state it.

Well that's not like this surplus system at all in that case now is it?

Once again trying too hard to be witty and failing miserably.

Makes two of us I guess.

Actually its very much like the surplus system if you factor in the randomness of these class skill points anyway. At any given fight, you could get anywhere from 0-1500+ points, it simply depends on RNG, just like SE's shitty droprate systems. So, you factor in an initially RNG system (class skillups vs. pathetically low NM droprates right out of the gun), and then institute a decay system on both (lowering both the point values of class skill points AND then transferring a percentage portion of them into some surplus fund that does nothing, compared to dropping the already abysmally low droprate by a static percentage value each time the mob is claimed by the target or the target's group within a certain time frame) and you have two staggeringly similar and staggeringly stupid systems.

So no, it doesn't make two of us. My example was extremely accurate. And let it go, Hyan: I won't be baited today. This issue is too retarded.

Is this some mistranslation going on around Komoto's name? Or is the JP post just plain bogus?
The first kanji used for his surname name is most commonly read "kawa" so that is how I read it. I was not aware that for his surname, it was a variant and read as "ko".

I all am for trying to close the gap between casual and hardcore, however this is ridiculous. SE keeps saying they don't want people to level faster to keep the game fair, but what do they call it when people with longer playtimes can level more classes compared to those with smaller playtimes?

No matter what way I try to look at this, there's always some faulty logic somewhere with this idea.

You are already limited by the NM pop time so there is no need for SE to make any further adjustments to the system. It is already limited, unlike the exp system.

Sorry, but bad analogy is bad, no matter how you twist it.

No matter what way I see this SE really needs to take a serious look into this.

This all is still currently under development, and we have plans to make the limit more palatable in answer to all the tester feedback we received concerning this. In particular we would like to address the speed with which experience begins to drop off and are already looking into it.
Also, since experience points fatigue carries over despite changing weapons, we plan to make it not so harsh.

we have received many comments suggesting some sort of reward be put into effect regarding it, and we think that’s a pretty interesting idea. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, though, and we’re currently investigating the possibilities.

The exp system is already limited by crap XP for non-leves vs. good xp for leves. Its not the same limitation, but its limitation nonetheless, and a significant one. One can achieve in 1 hour through leves what one achieves in a full day of non-leves.

That's subject to change for retail or even P3, as they admitted that they were wholly unprepared for level XP vs. surplus.

@Olo: We do it in the states as well. "Media bias" or "Liberal media" when something gets out that people don't want out. Shit, the SE execs could have said something stupid like "Its a smear campaign against us by rivals!"

Actually, that would have been far more interesting, but all of this could be avoided by simply explaining their systems right off the back, beta or not.

I see, thanks for your reply. So it can probably be read as either of them, because since the CoP days he is been known as Komoto, even in the beta site, his announcements are signed as Komoto. But in regard of interviews some call him Komoto and some Kawamoto.

I know a lot of people love the FF series. I know I do but I'm really blown away at how people are defending this system. I see NO defense for it. It's lame, period! If people are thinking it is to "delay people from leveling too fast"...then push the game back until the game is ready for retail release. Also, putting up road blocks for people will just result in them grinding to cap, then quitting to play another game that allows them to play freely (don't make me say that "other" game). SE should at least add that lame ass card game they did with XI so I can have something to do while I'm waiting on surplus to reset or while I'm waiting on my leve cooldown or better yet, the frigging crafting menu to load!

Now it's perfectly okay to do the same to players trying to get to the fucking level cap, on a week to week basis?

The sum total of stupid shit people say in Section: FFXIV climbs ever higher.
    Let's put it this way.

I find hardcore "I play 12-16 hours a day, why can't you keep up n00b" players disgusting.

I believe that players like this are the ones that shove even the average player into a corner of the endgame of an MMORPG. Basically, if you're not grinding TO THE MAX, something is wrong.

Well, S-E's put in a maximum that isn't "play till you drop". The devs have apparently had their balls drop into place. Fuck the hardcore grinders, let em do something else for a while. Or level multiple characters at once with their time, if they really want to do it.

As for "OH HEY, MORE CONTENT LATER", someone never played EQ.

The hardcore contingent played through it so fast that they found out the hard way that the devs hadn't finished the final part of the Planes of Power expansion, something the designers had expected would take weeks or months longer than it actually did. But hey, play with no life and you can go places!

And that applies in a lot of places- FFXI sure as hell wasn't the first MMORPG to ship an expansion out in pieces, and it won't be the last. Precious few games do, including WoW. The last boss fight (Arthas) didn't come along for months after the Wrath expansion released, not to mention they were sticking in new content regularly all the way up to that point and beyond.

Content access piecemeal instead of "go as fast as you like" is perfectly normal in MMORPG's. Get used to it, one way or another it's gonna happen- either you have games where you can zoom along at breakneck speeds until you slam time and time again into the wall of "coming soon", or they lock in a maximum speed and that's what you get, meaning at least they can predict exactly how long it'll take you to get there and plan accordingly.

I don't care how much people play and they should be able to play as little or as much as they like without being unfairly penalized.
