I'd keep the money unless it had ID with it, or it seemed suspicious (cameras nearby, drug money, blood, etc.). Money is money, if you can't keep track of it you don't deserve to have it.

This chick left about 2 thousand dollars rolled up on a black jack table the last time I was in vegas, my dad didn't see it and neither did the dealer. I ended up grabbing it and following her and giving it back.
That might be a different situation, but I figured she'd come back looking for it and someone else who was not me would fuck her night up by taking it. I try to think that if I do stuff like that perhaps I will be fortunate enough to have people repay it in kind.
Most likely 100% unrelated, but the last time I lost my ipod it was because I was careless and it fell out of my backpack when I moved it and some kid I didn't even know went to the trouble of getting my name from the prof and giving it to me at my dorm.
Like I said, probably unrelated and just chance, but I like to think somehow these things count for something.
Throw it in the bank real quick, then send that cash over to pay back a loan.
I'm not going to blow it on food - that's what my hard-earned cash is for.
i would spend it~
If I gave a bitch under any circumstances 2grand in vegas I better get my cock sucked.
Had a situation when I was working at best buy.
It was around 10 minutes left in my shift (left at 4PM) and i saw what i thought was just a $10 bill on the floor, so i stepped on it and looked around. I did the same bullshit, pretend to tie my shoe to pick it up and ran to the bathroom, when i opened up the bill it was actually $100.
No one came to look for it, as a matter of fact, I asked my manager to leave 10 minutes early and he said it was ok, and i darted right to the bank to deposit it. Free cash is always good. Especially when bills need to be paid.
I still wondered to this day who the fuck would be stupid enough to have a $100 bill and just somehow drop it?
HOWEVER to answer the question, if it had an ID then yea, i'd return it. But free cash is always good.
So you found ~30-ish bucks but then I noticed you said something about an old woman's penny purse. That makes it different than say something like two 5s & a 20 on the floor by themselves. I've found a wallet before on the school's P.E. field long ago and turned it in. I'd do the same since taking the money and turning in the purse empty is technically stealing...

Way back in the day, I saw a 20 on the floor as I entered the restroom. I stepped on it but as soon as I did, the person coming out of the restroom saw me and claimed it was his. I called his bluff and it ended with both of us turning the money in to the teacher. btw this was in elementary school.\
edit: I would've kept the money but with similar experiences after that anything over a 20, I'd give to an authority figure. I'd hate to lose that much and even with my awful luck, I think it helps my karma.
Since it was the bus I'd return the wallet with the cash. If i found a wallet on the side of the road and no official to give it to. I'd attempt to return the wallet. I've lost my wallet a few times and I've have no problem with someone taking the cash and returning the wallet. So i'd do the same. XD
Cash in a wallet, duffle bag, brown paper bag i'd take. Maybe not spend it right away, but it would be in my posession until the proper time to spend.
Keep cash, give remains back... "someone else musta rummaged through it"
As someone whos lost a wallet, replacing lost ID's are a shitton worse than losing a couple bucks. Lost ID's take forever to replace >.>
I'd give to the bus driver, but that's just me.
Where I used to work our security ("lost prevention" as they called them) would plant money sometimes around the store in the stockrooms and such and watch the security cameras trying to catch employees picking it up.It was always when and where customers couldn't possibly get the money btw. Just one of the reasons I hated that company.
I've seen a few news shows plant fake wallets on the ground with IDs/Phone numbers/money in them as a social experiment to see how people react to them. One even did it in multiple major cities. As I recall, the majority of people at least turned in the wallet to someone or mailed it to them, many with the money. That was kinda heart warming.
As for me, as long as there was a way of identifying the money/item lost I'd turn it in...just because I'd hope someone would do the same for me. Losing a wallet full of credit cards/IDs is a royal pain in the ass. However, there's been multiple times I've seen a $20+ on the floor at a bar/club and pocketed it without a second thought.
EDIT: But to the OP - if it's in a lil coin purse, turn it in (or call it in for the record so some clerk can't gank it). It probably is some little old ladies on a fixed income.
If I saw them drop it (just cash) I would stop them and give it back, but if I ran into a room with a $20 or some shit lying on the floor, what the fuck else can you do with it. Wallets and shit I will turn into an official or someone there if nobody in the room or near me claims it when I ask them.
When I was like 8 I dropped my wallet at a soccer field, only stuff in it was soccer id card, some pictures, and a 2 dollar bill.
Some guy called us and said he found it, and we drove like 30 minutes to go pick it up.
Fucker stole the $2 bill.
i would give it to the bus driver :/
I've jacked $20 before and found out that it was someone's last $20 before they got paid again and felt like a jackass and ended up giving it back - ever since I've found that karma can be a bitch.
I would just do the right thing and consider it your good deed for the day
So many of you are setting your stories up the way Busta did.
As a shorty playing in the front yard of the crib, fell down, and I bumped my head
Only time I've had this happen was in high school. I found someone's wallet with a 100 bucks in it. It strangely didn't have an ID in it but I just turned it in the to the vice principal (first person i saw coming out of the lunch room). Turned out it was the wallet of someone I knew and he handed me $20 bucks the next day xD
I'll give it back only if it has ID.
