Don't expect the price to be cut in half on the 930 just cause the 950 is receiving a significant cut. Since you're not buying anything till wednesday, and the price cut is tuesday, just wait and then decide!

Very nice! Was meaning to upgrade in early September, so this works out well!
Bump.

Still the old price on newegg/tigerdirect.
I thought the old price was $564? Amazon's showing $308.99 now.
Augh, I hope the price drops on Newegg soon, I hate ordering parts from elsewhere.
Why are people regretting buying an i7 930 for 200 + tax from MC?
The performance/price ratio for a MC i7 930 is still better than even a $294 i7 950.
Need something a lot better to be priced slashed. The 950 is in a much more reasonable price range now if you do plan on buying it.
Also, I doubt Microcenter would cut their in-store i7 930 prices. It's already much lower than other retailers but I'll hold on any absolute judgments yet.
Meh, I'm perfectly happy with my 2 month old 930 from Microcenter. I spent like 5 minutes in the BIOS setting it to 3.42Ghz and it runs at stock temps, maybe 1-2C higher at most.
Price cut hits newegg:

the real question is which motherboard to get now ;x
Yeah, here's one of the first few combo's I noticed.

Not sure which one I'd get though.

950 for $260, labor day sale.
Microcenter i7 950 $250 IN-STORE PICK UP
Stores will probably get them stocked up within the end of the month.

Still, the i7 930 @ 200 is better performance/ratio (bang for buck), and pretty much overclocks the same. Maybe you buying a better binned chip when going for the 950, but I doubt that.
Wouldn't the temps for a 930 be hotter at say 4ghz than a 950 at 4ghz?
No, temps would be the same. The i7 950 and 930 are the same exact chip, but the 950 is a higher bin and thus certified to run at a higher stock clock & turbo speed.
Realistically though, the difference will be small to unnoticeable, so a 930 on sale for $200 is a better buy than a 950 on sale for $250. If you want to stay stock clocked and get a little more speed, the 950 will do that, but it's not going to be a 20% improvement.
Also, not surprised at i7 price cuts, with Sandy Bridge due out Q1 of 11. As tempting as it is to upgrade now, initial impressions show that even the i5 parts from SB are even with the high-end i7 parts from Lynnefield. I think I'll be waiting.
