That box looks gold to me? Oh... it's big. I'd guess there's a random (low) chance mimics can spawn big. Same as if you get a gold chest with no light.

Before this giant gold mimic I had never seen a mimic that wasn't blue or the standard gold size.

It was just sitting in the middle Shadow Lizards so I tried to open it figuring it was a mimic and got eaten. Some mimics can be opened so I figured what the hell, give it a try lol.

So this begged the question: "Can mimics also spawn as a red box?"
