I was wondering when a thread like this would pop up...
had to ditch my apt due to bedbugs. Its fucking GROSS.
and as Richardd said, it is a mental thing too. Anything that tingles on your body, you'll automatically associate it to a bedbug feeding on you. Bead of sweat forming on your brow? Yeah, you'll think thats a bug. Wind causing leg hairs to move and brush together? Yup, thats another bug.
I just beat a bedbug infestation in my apt; no professionals needed. I suggest duct tape- LOTS of duct tape.
GDI this thread may drive me crazy, even though there has been no signs of bed bugs in my life ever.
it gets mental the longer you have them in your life. they're literally the size of like... pumpkin seeds. no. smaller than that. you dont feel them until they sink their rods into your pores, and even than, sometimes you dont feel it. you dont know when you're getting bit, unless you're able to physically see it or feel it. they can be anywhere on you, at anytime. they can hide anywhere they want. and they live in swarms. and swarms.... and swarms.you dont ever get rid of them unless you're going all out. and even if you stop them by starving the next generation of feeders, the newer ones will just hibernate for weeks to months to half a year before they feed again. ill bet you 9/10, that guy above us has not fully gotten rid of that infestation as simply as using "lots of tape" lol.
they'll drive you crazy whether you can see them or not lol. the longer you have to deal with it, the harder it is to get over it ;_; these things are no joke man lol. idk why they're not as popular as other infestations like botflies or whatever, since they're more occurrences. but the good thing about bedbugs is that you wont get any virus or diseases (rarely) from their bites
I got rid of my bed bugs but getting super bed bugs.
Repost in 6 months, and then tell us you've beaten it. Duct tape does shit for eggs.
BTW, bedbugs have been reported to go as long as 12 months without a blood meal... not merely 6.
Best bet, if they are on your furniture (metal, wood, plastic... they don't care) get rid of the furniture. If it's not reasonable or financially possible, it needs to be soaked in chemicals. Bedbugs are in the same family as lice, so anything that will nuke lice eggs will do quite well on bedbugs. Clothing, bedding, drapes, curtains, area rugs etc can all be harborage and need to be cleaned in hot water, or during winter time left in extreme cold. I've seen them hiding in old nail holes in drywall, in the folds on curtain rods, and in the little clasps that hold windows shades up. You gotta check any pictures you hang on the wall, in door hinges, behind any loose moulding... it's pretty nuts.
A good inspection (typically about 45 minutes to an hour in a standard 1 bedroom apartment) is the key, and from there, preparation as directed by the guys you hire. If you don't get a prep sheet with what to do on it, or even worse, if the company tells you nothing about preparing for treatment, WALK AWAY... they suck.
Also, get a warranty on the work, at least 6 months... and don't buy any lines about "just a one time treatment should do it..." Typically, price wise figure about $200 a room you want treated, and generally they stay out of kitchens and bathrooms... too far to walk.
One important note, sanitation has little to do with their survival, I've seen shit hole slums with bedbugs, and 2500 Sq. ft. homes with them as well. If you're in an apartment/dorm situation, let your adjoining units know whats going on. They will spread through wall-voids left, right up and down.
sweet dreams
Thats fucking gross, fu ck ing grosssssssss
Man I hate bugs and if this shit gets in my house im outta here.
They are hitting Detroit hard from what I have been hearing around here and I live in the suburbs north so we haven't seen anything nearby but its possible it might make its way up north more and hit us.
I know they don't like heat but what about extreme cold? During the winter turn off the heat as low as it can go without freezing the pipes and would they leave or just die off? Eggs included? It's worth a shot I think.
I don't think you understand how cold the Great Lakes area gets in the winter... My bed is adjacent the window. Wait til first week of February, shit is below 0 F and I open my window for an hour, see how those cocksuckers like Father Frost. I also propose unspoilered bedbugs be bannable like spiders, the still previews on those youtube videos made me squeemish.
You dont go to MC do you?
If we're not talking about the same school... mine had the same problem. it wasnt a whole building but it was like 1/4 to 1/2 the rooms in the place were fumigated and mattresses/furniture was removed. If you mentioned bed bug people started freaking out.
Oh damnit now i'm paranoid... Anyone know if there is any signs of infestation in the Seattle area?
John Jay actually. But the problem was with most places downtown. It started, they think, from a couple of hotels downtown, and people unknowingly trafficked them into public office buildings and that was pretty much it. Once they got into office buildings and schools there was no way to control it because people keep bringing them back. As a matter of fact I graduated this semester but I got an email warning students that the possibility was there for the bugs to come back and if anyone noticed them to bring to the attention of the dean or president lol.
yeah man. if someone comes up to me and says "i had to deal with bed bugs" throughout any part of a conversion, i treat it worse than the typical southern guy treats someone with HIV/aids. i treat them like they have Ebola. its scary shit lol. you will truly never know if you ever get rid of them 100%. that was the main reason i left that apartment lol. getting an exterminator with a contract or some sort of insurance/liability waver is definitely the way to go.
but if you catch it early on, you really should be fine if you take care of it right away. you might not even have to toss out furniture. but its hard to tell lol. if you wake up itching, or notice bumps on you, check your ceilings or electrical outlets. those are 2 of their favorite places to hide besides the corners of beds, from my experience.
but you guys should be fine for the most part if you never had to deal with it lol. its not like its a HUGE outbreak or anything. its just effecting some cities is all. and the exterminators take care of it pretty damn fast (well. at multiple jobs obviously. this isnt something youll ever get in 1 shot. even if you're dealing with 5 you can physically see.)... the good ones at least, which is who you should be hiring. local companies. not the crappy exterminator services that drive mickey mouse cars. i forget the name.
If you feel bedbugs should be spoilered for grossness I hope you don't check the random image thread.... centipedes in there willy-nilly and they're way grosser and scarier looking than bedbugs D: I motion centipedes be spoilered instead.
Oh look, 4 Ohio cities are in the top 15 bedbug infested citiesOne of them is mine and another is one I'm moving to in less than a month... yaaay~....
Definitely never reading this thread again; looking forward to insomnia for the next two weeks.
