If you could just hook up the new 3G iPod with a data plan you already have, that would be nice, but I doubt that is going to happen. Meanwhile, I could get a phone that has a wifi hotspot feature and hook my old iPod Touch up to that.

haha, My music library is currently sitting on a 500g external drive that is currently at 93% capacity. Although 192k is my bare minimum for anything, and most jazz/classical I refuse to accept below 320k.

At last check my library consisted of a little over 36k songs.

let's be honest, all real music lovers have nothing but a full library of FLAC files, shit i have 500k songs that are all FLAC at this point.

(you sound like one of those hipster douchebags from /mu/ is what i'm trying to convey)

more on point i hope that ipods get a little faster, the more i fill up my classic the slower it gets when trying to switch between any of the menus

Never owned any sort of mp3/video player. My Palm cellphone does both, thanks. Why do people buy these things when their cellphones can?

Music drains cell batteries pretty damn quick.

..and how the hell is .flac hipster? Hipster = thousands of terrible indie live recordings blaring out of headphones around your neck so everyone on the bus can hear. Pointless for portable music players, though. Everything sounds like shit on them so you may as well just use 128kbps mp3 to save space.

He isn't saying flac is hipster, he's saying he's retarded for not going under 320kb. However, only thing .flac is good for is to have a perfect backup of a cd; if you're keeping them for the sake of ultrahidden frequencies you think you can hear, you're doing it wrong (plus, they take up so much space). I'm sitting on about 31k songs, 207 gb, majority of them are 192kb-variable. v0/v2 all the way!

And the people who use open headphones in public places are generally:
-people who bought the 10 dollar set from a gas station or bodega
    -obnoxious folk/douchebags
    -ghetto hoodrat shorties

In NY, the people who do that blast Spanish music, top 40, and the latest R&B/hip hop singles, but never "indie" music. So called hipsters would probably be smart enough to use sealed/noise cancelling headphones anyways

Eh, I like indie. And I make sure nobody else hears what I play when I'm in public. Stereotypes

I replace my cellphones a lot, I drop my cellphones a lot and I just prefer having a separate thing that's just got my music on. Resisted an iPod for years as I thought they were overpriced for what they were, finally caved in and bought a classic a couple of years ago and I love it. Never liked the Nanos as much though - prefer the square look for them but it always seemed daft to me paying out for the screen in something that size.

Would never let people hear half of what I'm listening to in public - half of it is usually cheesy shite, but then the iPod's mainly used for in the car or in a dock at home to be honest.

Eh... I always used my blackberry and I never ran into battery problems until my battery started to go down the crapper. Now I have my droid x and I've listened to music for an hour start and it hadn't even budged the battery.

I don't have the X but yeah that shit doesn't even touch my battery. Hell, streaming Pandora barely hits it

Why does Apple need to treat technology like a cheap ass branding technique? Touch screens will not and should not replace every interface in electronics. Especially for devices that are meant to be simple/easy to use/specialized for 1 function=play music on-the-go!

The screen is the size of a thumb, yet is meant for a streamlined portable device? Nice, I can't wait to try that out, hoping I don't murder the screen or drop it like I do with my other generic mp3 players 10% of the time I leave the house.

What market is this targeting? Only rich adolescents or the business geeks who like having the latest gadgets?

    Oops, forgot lameproprietarysoftwarelol

Everyone should own a decent set of cans. There's no excuse for settling for anything below 192k nowadays. Avoid the Bose/ear candy traps and you can easily grab some entry-level studio monitors for $30 or less. (hd202 senns are a personal fave!)

edit: holy shit my cans dropped $10 since my last pair http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-.../dp/B000065BP9

skull candy does the job, but its in the same boat as ipods when it comes to value.

Closed-cup/noise reduction headphones shouldn't be expensive. They don't have high freq ranges and still use the same cheap chinese components as radioshack.

Where are the big 1TB brick-sized MP3 players already, I don't need to wear my music on my goddamn lapel.

"Apple designs Macs, the best personal computers in the world, along with OS X, iLife, iWork, and professional software. Apple leads the digital music revolution with its iPods and iTunes online store. Apple is reinventing the mobile phone with its revolutionary iPhone and App Store, and has recently introduced its magical iPad which is defining the future of mobile media and computing devices."

I own lots of Apple products, and I like them, but does this not seem more than a little self-indulgent and verbose to anyone else?
