It does, but that's their marketing strategy. Back then they had to do something "different" to break into the Microsoft-dominated market, and it did work. Today we see "I'm a PC" commercials from Microsoft which I find..lol.

iWork is meh but Keynote is really awesome. iPods and iTunes were revolutionary indeed (in before some dumb fuck goes ahead and says "there were music players before...and the invention of electricity, etc.").

iPhone....yeah, it did make quite a name as well.

Everyone should own a decent set of cans. There's no excuse for settling for anything below 192k nowadays. Avoid the Bose/ear candy traps and you can easily grab some entry-level studio monitors for $30 or less. (hd202 senns are a personal fave!)

More expensive but senn 280pro is my favorite for cans if you can still find them. In ear headphones I have some ultimate ear noise Isolating that are awesome as well.

And as for touchscreens, it is what you said about basically appealing to apple's target market and not caring about a practical design. And also so they can probably start selling games for the nano.

Really trying to figure out a reason to get an iPod Touch 4 other than "Oh, shiny." It's a very nice piece of technology but I really can't find a solid reason to replace my iPod Touch 1G with it. Pretty much use my 1G as an "alternate smartphone" to save battery on my Android phone (Ex: Messaging, Facebook, Dropbox, etc.)

I had an iPod Classic for about half a year, I really hated it tbqh which is why I wasn't too mad when it got stolen. I wish Creative still made high capacity players.

Good updates for a new customer, but yeah if you've got an older one there isn't much point in updating. I'd probably be OK with my iPod from 2006 if I didn't get a Touch for free.

Contrary to popular belief, touchscreens are not the end all be all of input methods. If they were, we still wouldn't see people using keyboards on phones or with their computers (along with a mouse). Sadly the mass market (read: stupid people) think that putting a touchscreen on something makes it instantly the greatest thing on Earth vastly superior to anything else available, when really all it is is an easy to jack up the price of a product while offering nothing real in the way of innovation or ease of use.

I.E. Apple in a nutshell.

The shuffle is good for what it does, and the new iTouch is the same shit it already was, a iPhone minus the phone that pretends it's still a music player and not just a cash funnel for apps.

I just can't find anything with similar capability that has a much better price tag and certainly nothing that has the install base Apple has for apps and games. I'd love it if there were, because on some fundamental level I disagree with Apple, but the masses who go for their crap have shaped the market and I feel pigeon-holed.

I'm so glad they went back to the clip design on the new shuffle. Haven't been able to find my 2nd gen shuffle for a couple weeks, so going to order a new one now. The clip design is by far the best for using at the gym or out running.

A Touch would cost far less than any smartphone in the long term. The monthly cost and contract suck. It's hard to get a smartphone with data and all of that for a reasonable rate, especially an iPhone. My current phone is functional with virtually unlimited minutes an text as well as unlimited data for $35 bucks a month. When browsing for a replacement months back it wasn't uncommon to see $100/mo for similar benefits when contracting a Droid or iPhone. I'm mostly interested in access to the apps and handful of exclusive or time-wasting games without the cost commitment of a smartphone. And when I say games I'm not talking emulation. If I want to emulate I'll do it on DS or PSP... something with buttons.
