PS3 Won't Read Discs

I have a launch model PS3 that recently froze in the middle of a Rock Band song. I had to hard reset it, and when it came back on it wouldn't read any discs. The PS3 functions find outside of that. Is this common? Is it repairable for a reasonable price? Can I do it?

Sounds like a busted blu-ray drive. You can buy one and repair it yourself, yeah. They run about $50, so not too bad.

My brother's did something similar. His stopped reading blurays, but can read regular dvd/cds. I googled a while back and it seemed kinda common, and there are places you can order the laser piece from and attempt to replace it yourself. I haven't yet gotten around to doing that though. ><
