If it is one of those filters it should be a 32mm for those if someone plans to do their own. Or you can two birds one stone it and use an oil filter wrap (Forgot the name of them bandwrench?) Put on oil rag around the top so it doesn't slide or fuck up the sides, put it over and twist.

2 1/2 years without an oil change? This is why drivers license tests should include a section on understanding the workings of a combustion engine. ><

Luckily, you're not hurting anyone except yourself (And anyone who buys your car, if you don't blow it up first).

If I were you, I would go get some oil and a filter, and a can of Sea Foam. Pour the Sea Foam in where you fill your oil, run it for 20 minutes, let it sit for 10, and change the oil and filter. The Sea Foam should hopefully break down some of the piles of sludge that have no doubt accumulated in every crevice that it can settle into.

If it matters, so you know I'm not some backyard redneck mechanic, my professional credentials are 16 years general automotive experience, ASE Cylinder Head machinist, ASE Parts Specialist, 9+ years as a professional Counterman, 4 years as a Cylinder Head machinist. Non professional credentials, I've built high performance engines ranging from Small Block Chevy and SR20s to blown Hemis and RB25s.

I forgot all about Sea Foam. It is by far some of the most incredible shit in the world, very good post.

not positive on this, so probably would want a second opinion, but you'd probably be able to get away with just using dino oil and simply switching over before the lease ends.

I use synthetic too though on my naturally aspirated high mileage civic... no particular reason but I like being able to wait a bit longer between changes, paying $90+ for synthetic is definitely rape though, if anything i'd probably just try and find a friend with a garage to use to get it done for $30

This is why dealerships force their lease holders to go to them or another place like jiffylube/walmart for oil changes. People try this shit fucking up the car for the next person. If a car asks for a certain weight or type of oil you fucking use it. Yes, i doubt some of the cars dealerships say to use synthetic don't "need" it but that is them trying to prolong the life of the car for the next driver and to protect their investment. If you don't want to use the best kind of oil, don't lease a car they want it used on.


Edit: As for double seals, when that happens 9/10 you will know the second you start the car because it will leak like crazy. If it isn't leaking wouldn't you have to take off the filter to check? Mainly because if its double sealed and isn't leaking that bitch is on there tight. If you are going to take off the filter to check you should just do it yourself considering you just did 50% of an oil change. BTW when i say oil change i mean oil drained, oil filter changed, new oil. If you are just changing your oil, not the filter your not helping very much at all.

I have had several quick lube places locally that dont know crap about changing oil and send you on your way with double seals. From what i see of people in my area they dont know how to check for double seals yet to fix the problem.

Wow thats fucked up if they successfully double seal cars on a regular bases without it leaking..... I wouldn't want my oil filter that tight.
