Don't think this has anything to do with the actual PlayOnline account at all. The OP probably is just registered to this site.
I'm from EU playing an NA account and haven't received any e-mails.
They obviously need to get rid of more players, the fewer players FFXI has the quicker they can stop supporting it and force us all to play 14.
This won't stop RMT at all, it will get rid of quite a lot of people that imported the game though.
ITT people who have never visited member.square-enix.com thinking something that doesn't apply to them does.
The fuck are you people bitching about? Clearly they are saying "Look, we know you aren't in NA, and we got off our asses to make localization accounts in your country. So we're gonna lock your NA accounts, and you can re-register on a new account for your country. Your stuff will be there too."
Jesus fuck, they aren't deleting your characters. I swear people will bitch about ANYTHING.
That was my first thought after I reread the message to see what it says. All it mentions is "Square Enix Members" accounts, not Playonline Accounts etc. This would also explain why nothing's on the POL site about it.
Won't know for certain for a while, but even I'm not so pessimistic as to think SE is banning all imported-NA-version-playing EUs or whatever. Invalidate their tokens maybe, but lock them out of their actual FFXI characters probably not.
FFXIAPOCALYPSE..........................for EU.
Wewt AMURRIKA
Trolling aside, this kinda sucks if it happens to a lot of my EU friends.![]()
Thanks for the alert, that's a pretty big thing. I stupidly misread the quote in the OP at first too. I have an NA account and live outside the US atm, and was ready to rage if something so ridiculously stupid could possibly fly.
Thanks for the info though, OP. I might have been very confused later at not being able to login.
It's bad/annoying for people who use a security token or have otherwise registered the SE members account. To have a FFXI account linked to a token you must have a SE members account and you can only link the token to a SE account of the same region as your version of the game. And once FFXI has been linked to a SE account it's linked for good, if you delete your SE members account you also loose access to POL.
Aren't they just saying make sure your SE account ties in with the region you're living in now 'hey, we're giving you one chance to correct it'? Worst case, an EU person is going to have to buy an EU copy of the game and make sure the SE account is changed from being NA to EU? Peeps in the UK can play NA characters on EU version currently but sounds like XIV won't go that way. You only need NA POL to change payment details right now. If that changes I can see it being an issue otherwise this is just them messing with the payment options I think.
Also:
From the notice of SE updating the system (linked last page on ffxivcore). Please keep in mind that registering a different region will disable you from using any services or products that you had been using on your Square Enix account up until now.
After you have registered your country of residence, a list of the services usable in your registered region will be displayed. We thank you and look forward to your continued support.
If I'm reading this right even if you change region to EU (while the stuff Vigilia mentions would lock you out) SE would seem to lock you out anyway, because NA FFXI won't be available on an EU account as a "service".
If this turns out the way it does then this is very bad, it basically stops the last 5 players from my shell from playing, including myself.
Wasn't it so that once you unlink a token you can never link one again?
Also what does it matter if we could use EU FFXI? The POL account will remain NA, which will be locked if I read that notice correctly from ffxivcore.
I don't know at the moment since the SE member accounts are down for maintenance. Going to have to wait a bit before we know if this will have any real impact or if it's just a piece of legal jargon confusing us all.
But I do know I can't get a EU token for NA character. I can log onto my characters on any version of the game of course but I need to be able to log onto and use NA POL and NA SE members account every time I make any chances to my subscription (CC changes, buying new expansions, changing address, purchasing IDs, linking tokens etc.) because the version of the game I created my character on is NA.
Hmm well there are people who legitimately move from one region. I can't see them wanting to to lose those peeps as well as those who have inherited/bought accounts who were registered elsewhere. I'm hoping this means you get a one off shot to move region. My main account is EU and fine, but I inherited a friend's NA account which I recently registered with an SE account but hadn't gotten around to buying a token for.
Last time I talked with SE, they said it's "impossible" to change region for your account. Which means if they're really locking these accounts you either start over or quit. TC is talking about Square Enix members (which has nothing to do with SE accounts or POL) and from what I've seen of the SE account update they simply ask you in which region you live in. Just select NA and it should be fine.
I guess if you want that SE account to be accessible for XIV etc it may be worth changing.Accidentally Registering the Wrong Region
It is possible that you previously registered a different country for your Square Enix Account than your current country of residence. This may have occurred if you moved since your previous registration. The screen below will be displayed when selecting your country of residence if the country you have selected is different from the region already registered to your Square Enix Account.
You are now required to accurately register your current region. If this differs from your previous registration, you may be prevented from using any services or products that you had been using on your Square Enix Account up until now, specifically including the Members Site and all associated Members Points. You will be able to access your region's version of those services. We apologize for any inconvenience. However, if you fail to update this information now, you may be prevented from accessing future services.
I fuckin hate Square, I hate how we have to guess everything they do to see if it is going to seriously affect us. They know people inmported and they know we will be scared about our accounts being locked off and they don't put it crystal clear for us at all.
Basically we just have to wait to see if our shit gets canned rather than having our minds put at rest as it being a simple changeover. Getting involved in an online Square game was the stupidest thing I've ever done, they have the worst customer server on the face of the planet. It's like they are doing us a damn favor but letting us give them our money.
Same stupid situation with the verified by visa all over again.
I don't know if I will be able to use my account past sept 1st and if I can I don't knwo what problems will arise from having linked it to a US security token. I don't know whats more stupid, the fact Square are still so horrible to it's customers after so many years or that we are still paying to play the game when they treat us so bad.
So basically we have to wait and see what others do, if they are truthful thinking its a simple changeover (as it implies) and their accounts get locked we all know to lie and say we are actually still living in the region we initially registerd in. Since you only get 1 chance at this they are being pretty draconion with us, as per usual.Last time I talked with SE, they said it's "impossible" to change region for your account. Which means if they're really locking these accounts you either start over or quit. TC is talking about Square Enix members (which has nothing to do with SE accounts or POL) and from what I've seen of the SE account update they simply ask you in which region you live in.
