This game will be out for up to 10 yrs at least if not more just like ffxi. There is tons of time to fix initial problems over the next 6 months and there will continue to be issues throughout the first full year.

There is only so much a beta can tell you anyway. Eventually you need the much higher population numbers and open up the game fully to really test it out. I'd say this month is just as good a time as any and from what I've seen since I got on last night they have made substantial improvements from the character creation menus to everything in game and we still have the whole freakin month almost to iron out even more. patience.

Who the hell gets burned out during a beta phase.

They don't even give you enough to do to get burned out plus a lot of times there were time limit restrictions. I would think it is much better to continue to have people who beta tested the whole way through.

Why would you want people to give you feedback then say thank you now gtfo. We don't want you to tell us or see if you liked the changes we made based on your feedback. What a croc man.
Exactly what I'm saying. "Oh, thanks for reporting/helping fix our bugs. We're opening up alot of new areas to test, with the chance of more bugs(Which new people can't report), but you don't get to see it til last. You thought we were serious when we said you keep beta access throughout all test? We trolled you!"

In other news: I got my registration key last this morning, and I was an original alpha tester. I don't know if that has bearing on anything that is being discussed about people not getting into the open beta.
Seems like it. Past experience with S-E indicate they won't fix a lot of minor but annoying bugs for quite a while. Still, if they can manage to finally get the UI 100% right (they did a step in a good direction in OB, but it's still quite not it) and optimize the game better (seems to be getting worse with each phase lol, but they said Beta in general has background check processes running) it should still be ok.

Omg, seriously? Still no arrows? Wtf that was my second biggest gripe with this shit, the first being the horrible menu lag for everything.

Yeah lol, but other than that it has full customization though. So assuming they do fix it so you can bind the arrows, it's 100000x better than ff11(outside of windower binds of course)

Isladar, believe me, I want FFXIV to be successful, I am not some hater. First day bugs are inevitable, I have no problem with that. Where I have the problem is that the deadline has become more important than game quality. And that means that shortcuts on important game controls are going to be taken. I would much rather them launch this game in 2011 or even 2012 and get it in a decent working order than just make the first year of the game another open beta.

There is so much lag in everything in the game, you can't even really tell what the combat system, UI, controls or anything is going to be like. There is just too much not fully done, and some much that just feels rushed.

Maybe they have already done everything and we are just testing the servers, and the actual launch game will be completely different (that is my hope), but every day that passes dims those hopes more and more. MMO's need, nay, require fast inputs, logical or at least easily accessible game commands, and response time. FFXIV so far has none of that (I haven't been on the open beta build yet, so if you are right, then maybe my hopes were fruitful), and the servers aren't even stable. If you can't keep your beta servers up 20 days before launch...

Let's just say, I won't be canceling my FFXI sub anytime soon, and I literally don't know anyone else that will either.

Yea menu lag is *almost* completely fixed. Many things are near instant speed now, but some data chugging menus like gear and attributes are still kind of slow. Still an improvement.

Lobby server is borked, I'm assuming theres some sort of maintenance?

    Edit: Nevermind, it's a maint

I don't really care about the binding of other keys lol, that stuff was ok as it was, but the camera controls are a huge deal to me personally. This is upsetting news indeed, especially since a ton of beta feed back demanded the arrows to return, and seems to have been ignored.

Then launch it in 6 months... I have no idea how you can launch a game with a strict launch date before you even go into beta.

They are banking on this idea. They know that the first year of the game is just open beta 2. I don't think that is a good development model, and I don't think it shows much respect for the players as a whole.

I think the lag is exaggerated, shit is near instant now barring specific situations (and I do hope these will get fixed)

They did it with XI, and it worked, so they're doing it again.

I don't agree with it, but it's not like I am forced to play before the game is in a good enough condition (for me).

I hope they're prepared for all the initial bad press the game is going to get.

How is this game doing to launch in 20 days?

Anyone else get the feeling it is going to be bugged like hell for a long time because they are rushing it out the door?
It's going to have a buggy launch, yeah. I gave up on my not playing till launch idea, and broke down for the open beta earlier this morning. I have to say that despite some stuff that could/should/hopefully eventually will be fixed, its still a product I'd be perfectly willing to pay 15 dollars or so / month for in its current state (as long as they did make progress towards fixing those little things over the first few months). I mean, its missing lots of stuff, and SE hasn't had the best communication, and all that stuff that's been repeated ad nauseum. But imo its still really pretty, and I think I could have some good fun with it as is for a decent bit of time.

I'd certainly be happy if it was better, but I don't think it's that unreasonable to launch it in a slightly more polished than present state. IMO a lot of the criticism here, while true, is a bit over-sensitive. But that's just my take.

The up/down arrow keys not being assignable though.... why on earth do they let you customize like, 92% of your keys, and arbitrarily have a set list of ones you can't change? It's baffling. And annoying. I set it to use my number pad arrows for now, instead of ijkl, and .... I dislike it. I'll probably dislike it a lot less after two or three months of using this, once I've been forcefully accustomed to it, but really. What on earth.

Menu lag for me seems 'ok'. Not instant but better than last phase. NPC's are still lagy when you talk to them to 'buy' or 'sell'. Not sure about the scroll lag, as I only did the main quest for gridania and logged last night, which by the way not rewards 13k gil instead of 2k.

The initial bad press is going to be a killer... I just don't get what SE is doing... well, I never really have. LOL

I am going to withhold judgment until I can get on the open beta servers, because I am working on assumptions from the last build. The problem is that the last build was so bad that I gave up playing long ago. That is never, ever a situation you want players to be in. This game doesn't need 6 months of bug fixes, this game need 6+ months more development time. There is a huge difference. Even if you fixed all of the lag and issues, there is still the problem of a unintuitive combat system that has internal issues. No bug fix is going to fix a bad combat system.
