Wake up at like 4AM EST and register at that time. You should be able to get your keys then. I got mine at like 6AM this morning.

ffxiv-status.com shows all servers as down, even version check is giving me an error, and I have all the patches transferred over from my utorrent folder (I'm still seeding for all you assholes ^^)

Isladar, believe me, I want FFXIV to be successful, I am not some hater. First day bugs are inevitable, I have no problem with that. Where I have the problem is that the deadline has become more important than game quality. And that means that shortcuts on important game controls are going to be taken. I would much rather them launch this game in 2011 or even 2012 and get it in a decent working order than just make the first year of the game another open beta.

There is so much lag in everything in the game, you can't even really tell what the combat system, UI, controls or anything is going to be like. There is just too much not fully done, and some much that just feels rushed.

Maybe they have already done everything and we are just testing the servers, and the actual launch game will be completely different (that is my hope), but every day that passes dims those hopes more and more. MMO's need, nay, require fast inputs, logical or at least easily accessible game commands, and response time. FFXIV so far has none of that (I haven't been on the open beta build yet, so if you are right, then maybe my hopes were fruitful), and the servers aren't even stable. If you can't keep your beta servers up 20 days before launch...

Let's just say, I won't be canceling my FFXI sub anytime soon, and I literally don't know anyone else that will either.

The no arrow keys for camera control makes me RAGE, like FITE ME style, but that's just a question of time. I think they should push things back, and iron out issues; a lot more people would rather wait and have things working right instead of zomg launch date.

What has been repeated that I try to bare in mind is that this beta that some people magically got into (list your names so I can ban you, fuckers) is not the newest, shiniest version.

Ouch... don't know what else to tell you. I got a site down error last night, but this morning I got my keys. When I went to register them, I got a site down error again. So I haven't registered my keys yet, but I am not pressed to get on the open beta as some people.

maintenance + final fantasy mmorpg? wtf is that? get used to it cause it's gonna happen a lot. ..what a load of shit lol. This and your post before this one. The beta has hardly been out. New groups of beta testers has been infused into the game at basically every single phase but a huge majority have continued to give quality feedback at every phase and that's why they give them the option to continue throughout the beta instead of saying ty, fu, see ya. Who the hell gets burned out during a beta phase.

They don't even give you enough to do to get burned out plus a lot of times there were time limit restrictions. I would think it is much better to continue to have people who beta tested the whole way through.

Why would you want people to give you feedback then say thank you now gtfo. We don't want you to tell us or see if you liked the changes we made based on your feedback. What a croc man.

Go read a text or two on software testing and come back when you have an informed opinion. The only bullshit here is coming from you; you seem unwilling to believe me when I tell you that basic testing theory sez get fresh people as much as possible, so I can only suggest you go read the theory for yourself. It is not hard to comprehend, and there are years of experience in the field supporting the theories.

The fact that SE totally messed with your heads by changing their minds, and the fact that they seem to be relying on parsing automated feedback instead of manual reports for most of the open beta, are seperate matters from "I'm an experienced expert tester who leaves feedback and they should have kept me." You have every right to feel butthurt over the first, ypu can make arguments for the second, but the last one is just QQ. Fresh testers outweigh old testers by a large factor. I've spent years listening to freshmen argue this, and all I can say is RTFM.

That is exactly my hope. My thought is that we are at least 2 versions behind, and they have an idea of where they need to go, and are just using the beta to confirm those thoughts and get new ones.

Believe me, I am still hoping.

My real problem is more personal... I am really enjoying FFXI right now, it is in the best state it has ever been. I haven't been this excited about FFXI since I was a wee little noobikins. After a year of complete disappointment, this total turnaround in FFXI is making me question if I even want to play FFXIV right now. Not all my friends have comps that can run FFXIV, and it just isn't compelling enough to play without them. That is why I am frustrated. FFXIV needs to be good enough to justify my friends buying new computers to play it. If it isn't, and if FFXI is more compelling than it has ever been, then I have no reason to play a very pretty but still badly flawed game...

And that is killing me. :/

Definitely, but it's a case of revenue vs. smoother launch. They'd lose months worth of subscriptions on top of giving players more free playtime. It's not an easy decision, but I'm sure at least the developers would agree with us. Too bad they don't have a say in this.

It's not (never is), but it is OPEN beta, therefore pretty damn close to the final build.

There are some features that have not been touched on in ages though (iirc) like retainers and marketplace so I assume we might see some larger improvements on those areas in shorter timespan.
