You have to run SE's client first for it to go in and fetch the torrent file for whatever patch it's working on first.

Comparing the german and the english emails i got it pretty much says that everyone can generate a OPEN BETA KEY for them self as long as they own a SE ACCOUNT.
If to much account are created at a time SE will put the option on Hold and resume creation at a later time.

This happened to me when I first got into beta. Then I installed a new video card and stopped getting the error. 'Twas a common problem amongst people on the SE beta boards over the summer.

I don't know if this is related or not, but when I was attempting to install the patch last night i would get to about 99.2% installed then receive an error along with Microsoft Security Essentials would give notice that one of the files was infected withe a virus.

Along with the postponement of FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, the issuing of registration code for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will be postponed as well. With the download of client software's installer, it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010.

Managed to get the torrent working, the regular method refused to go a byte above 3.101kb/sec

Hmm, as with nearly everyone else, the SE updater sucks for me, so I grabbed the torrent files from the folder specified above ( well actually it was bca2a8ae, d96437e6 doesn't exist, I literally JUST downloaded the installer from the entry.ffxiv.com ) and dropped them into uTorrent, but it just downloads 1 5MB .patch file ( I don't even know what the second did, I can't find anything ). What am I fudging up here? I thought there was ~10GB in those torrent files?

You need to wait till H2010.08.30.2000 starts, that is the big one, 4.7gb in size. Once that is going, the torrent file will appear, so go ahead and open that in utorrent.

Then you have to watch it for between 3-30 hours. Mine shut off on me twice while I left it on and went away. So I had to sit there and watch it.
