Yes, Legend of Mana was like Dark Cloud and those other build-your-own-world games which is why I didn't care for it.

Seiken Densetsu 2 & 3 are absolute SNES gold though, and if I had to single out any one title (other than FF11), I would pick Xenogears as Tanaka's best.

There were some pretty serious problems with all those games.

I don't want to derail this too much, so I'll just say that the class system in Seiken Densetsu 3 is kind of reminiscent of the TotM trials in FFXI. We can tell some of how both work based on what's initially available. The Sorceress chick's going to blast shit w/ magic. The Warrior guy's going to stab shit with a sword. But we have no idea how they're going to evolve later on and may find a lot of hours sunk into something that ends up being subpar or worthless. (i.e. you wind up with a poorly balanced/weak party, and goodluck figuring out what drops the final class upgrade item...and I hope you have better luck with the shitty droprate).

If this analogy works for you then it's probably my finest ever.
