Well, just to get some numbers out there, the Maxima in question is ~193" while the E46 BMW is ~176" so it's well over 1 foot difference. The new Accord coupes are around 190" so they aren't much smaller but significantly sportier (imo).

But I do agree with Shinzon--it doesn't really matter if it's objectively bigger. If you like it, you like it, and that's what's important. I'm just saying I would go with a new car with full warranty, and you won't have nagging doubts of if the previous owner took good care of the car.

Yeah...the maxima does look a little ghetto for me, but has a lot of the bells and whistles Id want on a new car, that would drive them in the range of 25-30k+. I guess I could just drop the 10k on a new car and finance the rest of it, but it would be so nice to be able to save for later in my life when Im not in the city and worrying every day if my brand new camaro is going to get sideswiped by some asshole.

Im going to meet the guy tomorrow, I'll know right off the bat if its a car I want to be seen driven in, and give it a test drive to see how it feels.

Any more words about the BMW though? Would a BMW like that cost an extensive amount to fix being at the 110k range? Id rather deal with fixing Maxima parts than Germanly engineered ones, haha.

Also if I am going to straight buy the car from the guy, you think straight cash would be the best way? Whats the best way not to get fucked on a private sale?

Third party contract signing, bank check for payment.

I would never pay straight cash. Personally, I would get a cashier check from my bank to pay, since you can trace that. Make sure you have of a bill of sale written up and all proper paperwork. If the person insists on not going through paperwork (i.e. I don't want to pay taxes, I really need to sell this), I would stay away. Without getting a bill of sale or doing the proper paperwork, you have little recourse against the seller if something goes wrong. Better to be safe than sorry.

    My two cents.

Third'd for a WRX or STI!

Also definitely do a cashiers check. Carrying $10k in cash is never a good idea, and ALWAYS bring a friend/family member along.

A used BMW isn't going to cost you a ton of money really. Unless it needs important repairs like brakes, if driven hard, tires if they are really worn; I wouldn't expect to throw a ton of money into it immediately. Fluid changes can be cheaply done at a Pep boys or somewhere like that. Get a carfax report on the cars btw. A car with that many miles really just needs a good tuneup and good upkeep. Those engines are bulletproof for the most part.

Ok, well I decided against those two, and found two beemers with half the mileage, newer year, and not much more expensive. Plus theyre both AWD, so should help in the city during snow and what not.

Not really sure whats the difference between the two, one has 65k miles and is $16.7k. The other has 53k miles and is $15.7k. They seem to be the exact same car otherwise. I'll have to go there to check both out, but one of those two cars WILL be my future car.

On the subject she stated that if I was paying the entire thing up and not financing, there would be a cheaper cash value price. How much cheaper should I expect this to be? 15 or 16k I can dump up front, but what else should I expect in fees beyond that? Title, taxes, anything else?

Don't ever buy a car with mods. Stock is always the best way to buy a car.

^ yes, unless you know said person, trust them, and like the mods or the manufacturer is modding the car.

Anyone able to put any input onto what I should expect less than the financing price if paying the entirety up front?
The cost is 15,700 when financing, how much less should I expect if paying the entire price up front. How much for title and taxes if within NY?

Aren't you kinda working backwards here? There's no way to tell without knowing your APR.

You should get the following breakdown:

    1. Sales price of the car itself
    2. TTL (tax title license)
    3. Finance costs

In Washington when I bought my car the tax was just like anything else, 8% or something. It was over $1000 in tax, which was paid when I went to get my plates. I can't believe how much BMWs depreciate after a few years, ridiculous.

Something in the line of a Chevy Camaro 2010/11, a 3 series beemer, certain acuras...I live in the Philadelphia, PA area, and was wondering if anyone knew of some good sales going on, it being the end of the model year. Ive been looking but not really sure where to look for good deals. Thanks BG!

I was actually about to post a thread like this in a couple of days, I'm in the same boat except I'd like to finance and put 10%-20% down, however my credit is little to none (Not bad credit just barely any) and I can't get pre approved anywhere. My question is, should I still go to a dealer and try to get them to finance me if I'm "set" on buying a new/delightedly used car or will they just tell me to fuck off as well? Also will be using my current car as trade in.
