Serious talk; the only thing about the article that makes me eyeroll is that this shit isn't obvious. I don't introduce myself to people as "Hey, I love comic books and video games, I am a comic book nerd gamer." I have known any number of people who will wholly identify themselves by their love of nerd shit.

Although, there is a culture element at play here, too. If someone extols his love of sports, for example, no one's gonna go "oh man, it's a sports fan. I bet he spends all his time watching sports." Video games are still a pretty small part of popular culture compared to football. Maybe one day you'll be able to say you're a gamer without people conjuring up images of your mother's dark basement and a chair in the corner covered in Mountain Dew, cheeto stains, and semen, but that day is not today. Identifying yourself as a gamer just perpetuates the notion that we're some strange subsect of humanity that needs our own brands of food and razor blades. So yeah, Crenshaw's right.
