So far by overwhelming majority the RPers I've met (I joined the RPC and I'm going to RP in XIV at my girlfriend's behest) are cooler and more mature than the average player.

When u look at it this way, yeah, I prefer play with people who are playing for the fun more than the competition,, and I'd add less cocky..
but then some jerks will eventually piss u off and u'll have to be all cocky haha.

I RPed in FF XI, and I know a lot of the people on the RPC. You would be very surprised at some of the Myths about RPers.

For example, we're not going to RP when doing Endgame events, or even EXP parties or missions. It just gets in the way and makes coordinating very difficult. Many of us also participated in End-game. Feel free to look up Dyterium from Sylph. He wound up upgrading Gugnir with our Dynamis group. Many RPers are just like everyone else in the game, but in down time rather than just jumping on another job they don't have at 75 yet, and grinding away despite the fact they hate it, they get together somewhere and RP - usually in /party or /linkshell. Most people on the RPC do not condone ERP either, though me saying there aren't a few desperate guys among their ranks that wouldn't ERP would be a bold faced lie.

The sad thing is it's a small minority that give us a really bad name.

Unfortunately, I won't be RPing this time around in FF XIV. After having Role Played in FF XI for a time, I realized I'm a much more progression oriented person, and RPing does get in the way of that from time to time. While that wouldn't prevent me from RPing once in a while when I have free time, they're starting on a different server than I will be. Any one that's even remotely interested in Role-Playing should definitely check the RPC out. They're a bunch of good people and you would really be surprised about some of the myths surrounding RP.

RPing while playing an MMORPG is fucking stupid.

I was in West Ronfaure a few years ago and saw a new Warrior at like level 3 or 4 approach an Orc. It went something like this:

Numbnuts>> Halt Orc! I have no wish to fight you! Return from whence you came!
Orc>> ... (wanders around aimlessly)
Numbnuts>> Thank you for letting me pass in peace, beastman.
Orc>> ... (turns around and aggros)
Numbnuts>> Fie vile beast!
*engages*
Numbnuts is defeated by the Orcish Grappler.

I walked away and let him HP. Some lessons are best learned the hard way. Orcs don't RP.

Most RP servers have more adults 25+ So that's a good base for those who started 11 when they were in their 20s.

Nothing wrong with the majority of people on a RP server. Sure you have your trash but that's the same everywhere. At least people won't type as if they failed out of school during 2nd grade.

I have yet to see a role-playing server act like a role-playing server. The qualities, good or bad, associated with them seem more like a myth.

I also find it odd people spread this image that MMO role-players are some sort of wild sex deviant. How many fucking people with accounts on bluegartr fucked over their linkshell's bank because of some manthra who verbally wet their dick? Must be hundreds of linkshells - and guilds - in our long history. You are not any less pathetic with your e-girlfriends and mishaps.

My best roleplayer interaction experience had to be in WAR. Mythic was retarded and when they decided to condense servers the first time, they put some RP servers in with regular servers (even though they hadn't wiped all the RP servers...). Anyway there was a RP all-dwarf guild that had to come to our server because of it, and they were fucking awesome. They didn't really give a shit about any castle that was in an elf/human area but god damn they would defend the dwarven area castles TO THE DEATH (rinse, repeat). With a lot of awesome shouts involved in it.

Other than that, I've seen rp in WoW, EQ, etc. and those pretty much failed.

There's a lot of bad rep on RPers, but its a wide variance. You have your casual RPers who just kind of stay in character while chatting with friends and stuff, lets take your average taru and have him a mage.

Believe it or not, chances are there's a few RPers in your endgame shell, and you probably have done some RPing yourself without realizing you were doing it. It's role playing, playing the role of your character. You know that time you called a galka stinky or fat, or made a joke about someone's race? Yeah that counts as RPing, very casual RPing, but it's just that.

So back to this taru, anything from "Yay we got a paladin, now I won't get squished by the mean monsters :D" to the annoying macros like "By the devine strength altana gives me, CURE!" are all forms of RP.

I have yet to meet a taru that doesn't RP to some extent, it's just impossible to be a taru and not act a little dorky, often times involving our secret plans as a group to take over the world, or our dear love of cookies, shit like that. That is casual roleplaying. It's fun and it passes the time when you're gathering outside dynamis or waiting between windows on an HNM.

High end roleplayers just take it to a higher extent, adding flavor to the game like adding in accents and using in game terms like: "Well I'd say you'd be wantin' to head out roughly, oh, 20 yalms north of the Crag of Mea, just pass those rabbit critter's. You'll know you're close when you see some Dhalmel's you're almost there, I'd reckon" or whatever.

It just adds some flavor to the game, it's not like we're role playing sex in emotes in the middle of the city.
